Hello! There is a strange thing happening: when I have my wheels in GMAX everything looks OK, however when I look at the wheels and the axis in MSTS it seems to be turned inside out! Like MSTS voluntarily flipped normals of the parts polygons! And when I flip normals on my wheels in GMAX it kind of helps, but I still'd like to know what's wrong!... (Anyone had this issue before?)PS All other parts seem to be OK, this weirdness only affects the wheels.

I had this happen once. It was pretty weird to say the least. IIRC, the scale setting on my wheels was set to -100% because I'd cloned then and flipped them, or something like that. Resetting the scale (there's a button for this on the hierarchy tab on the toolbar) fixed the problem, but for some reason the polys that make up the wheel rim still disappear from certain angles where they should still be visible. I've never really understood why this happens, maybe someone else can shed some light. I do know that this shows why you want to stay away from using Non-Uniform Scale on parts when they're in object mode instead of polygon, mesh, or triangle selection.Alex Stroshane Amtrak Prototype & Model Photos, Train Gifs, and more! http://www.trainweb.org/asamtrak911
Now I'm having this very frustrating problem with GMax - whilst the model is fine in GMax, TSIM flips it inside out ??? If I flip the normals in GMAX then TSIM is back to normal, but trying to work with an inside out model in GMax is impossible Can anyone help here ?
That happens with Gmax models for FS2002 when you use the object copy from the menu instead of cloning it. I'm not sure if the same applies to MSTS because I always use the clone method.Carlos
Thanks for the reply. I made 1/4 of the body and then used mirror (copy option) to make the three other parts then welded.Should I have used edit/clone /copy then tranformed ?Is there any way to fix this Carlos ? Even the original is inside out at the moment. The body and bogies are inverted, whilst the rest of the objects are correct???Stangely, if during export I select 'collapse nodes' for the main object & bogie objects (2nd tier in hierachy) then it exports correctly. But then the wheels (3rd tier) are in the wrong place. The only way I can get it to export properly is to flip the normals in GMax of the body & bogies & then export, then flip them back to work on it. This may have to be the ugly solution ?Paul
You should try resetting the transform and scale on every gmax part. As said before, the sim doesn't like object-level scales/transforms, so doing this for all parts will eliminate that variable.
Thanks - I had tried that but didn't solve it. For the record I have solved it and I will describe the fix so it can hopefully help others in future with the same problem.Basically I had created the main model in 1/4 sections (being a very symetrical model) and then mirror copied the sections to make a whole model and welded. Same with the bogies - created one, then mirrored the other.Well after MUCH trial and error I discovered that the mirrored bits (only)when creating polygons manually required a clockwise direction for the poly to show in the correct direction, vice the normal way of clicking around the vertices in an anticlockwise direction. This was the key to the problem. The mirrored shape normals were reversed in export to .s , even though GMax shows them (ie visible surfaces) the 'right' way out.So the solution was to delete the mirrored parts/copies, and re-copy and create the model via rotates and transforms only. Then reset the pivots via a reset transform and viola - problem gone...Too bad about the hours wasted figuring this one out. Avoid mirroring it seems !!!
