The acceleratometer shows, to one decimal place, the train's acceleration in mph/minute. (Rounded off, this the difference between the current and projected speed in the F4 monitor.) Although it swings wildly when you are starting up and climbing a grade (slippage?)and seems to lag a little, it settles down and is interesting to watch when you are cruising along. If you would like to add it to your cabview, cut and paste to following to your cvf file (after backing it up of course). In the cvf file find the line near the top
"Cab View Controls ( nn " - and raise "nn" by one digit since you are adding a cab view control. Then insert below, but first notice the values 157 and 350 in the text. These are ok for the default Dash 9 cab, but replace them with 215 318 for the 3DTS SD70 cab, and with 357 302 for the NALW P42 cab. These numbers indicate horizontal and vertical position on the screen. Tab to indent to match the formstting in the file, and don't miss that last parentheses!fwbryanDigital (

RE: Add an Acceleratometer to your cab CRT

I am saving your accelerometer for future reference. See below for some other interesting additions, especially the traction/braking meter. Dial (

As the clock is keyed to the start time of the activity, it is a good way of keeping track of how long the current operation has been underway. The traction / braking meter is like your accelerometer, but is calibrated in newtons. If anyone wants to see a screen shot or additional information, just let me know. Enjoy.

>I'd like to see what you have.Post a screen shot for us. Okay. Enclosed "link" is of a modified .cvs file which was originally produced by 3DTrains and released as an extra (unused) cab file with the LTV trainset. I don't imagine the modifications have any resemblance to actual locomotive instrumentation. However, they were a remarkable education for me in the use of the Cab Editor and TgaTool. Note: Although I posted code for a "TRACTION_BRAKING DIGITAL" guage, it was only for testing the calibration of the analog display, and is not shown in the screen shot. Yeh! That's like me thinking my wife looks like Sophia Loren, with a few minor differences--maybe a wrinkle here, a lump there, etc.

RE: Add an Accelerometer to your cab CRT

FWIW this code or something similar has been in several NALW cabs dating back a year or more and several other virtual manufactures too... When we were all trying to eliminate the need for the track monitor this was one of the 1st components added to the cabs, right after cabsignals....Chuck Schneider

Chuck,What I'd love to see is a level indicator. Heading UP or DOWN, perhaps also in degrees up or down.Ted

RE: Add an Accelerometer to your cab CRT

I don't know what the accelerometer will do, but when you transition from level to upgrade, the 'traction/braking force' meter will reflect an immediate increase in load. It will do the opposite when starting a decending grade. The load will start to fall off, as the draw bar is under less strain at the same throttle setting. When in dynamic brake or engine brake mode, it reflects the effect of braking, such that when there is more effect, i.e., starting an ascending grade, it will rise, and vice-versa. Maybe this would be enough to alert the driver to the change in track attitude. Seems to me it would be better than nothing. I haven't tried train brakes yet, as I don't generally run with them on.

RE: Add an Accelerometer to your cab CRT

Go get a couple of our engines and you can watch what happens...The AEM7 for example will allow you to "watch" all the cars in the consist as they cross a turnout (switch to us yankees) by fluctuating as each car is pulled against their resistance... Sharp curves show up the same way... Hills show up similarly as the transition is made... You can also watch the ammeter and see a similar phenomina.... Chuck Schneider
