Aug-12-01, 11:36 PM (EST) "Mapping in 3max/One bmp/help" Are there any tutorials on mapping 3d models using a single bmp with croping out parts off one bmp as used in MSTS (as well as other games). I cannot figure out how to attach bmps and get them to stay on. After assigning material id#s and cropping them out they do not seem to "stick" once the file is saved and re-opened. Once I reopen my model it shows the entire bmp on the model as one bmp. The little box to save coordinates is checked. I know I am missing something. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-12-01, 11:48 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Mapping in 3max/One bmp/help" Hello,Try this make a box. Then make a bmp with 6 little boxes of different colors. Add the bmp to the material. Then add a mesh edit to you box, choose the poly mode, choose one poly on the cylinder. Then add a UVW Map, check the planar choose the proper x,y,z option fit it then add a UVW Edit. Fit the edit to the bmp and move on to the next face of the cube. Once your done save the file and reopen it. All the faces should be the same as when you finished.Hope this helps.Roger Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-13-01, 11:32 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Mapping in 3max/One bmp/help" I will go over #3. Took a quick look while at work. Looks great. I was not familiar with the Unwrap modify function. This is what I have been missing. ps. I took a look at that screenshot of your observation car with no blur you posted today. By far, the graphics look far better than those in the rest of the sim! You made MSTS current version now obsolete,,,,,,an MSTS II needs to be made with your stuff....! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-15-01, 00:32 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Mapping in 3max/One bmp/help" Say, I went through the tutorial 3 with my Max R3 open. Nice exercise. Good info and tips on building. I think I finally got down the texture mapping issue with the Unwrap function. I am working on 40 foot wood box car with upright brake staff. I hope to have it finished and posted by the weekend. Can't wait to see it!Next Monday will be part two of tutorial#3 - it'll go into more texture mapping as well as some tricks for reversing text and logos on the otherside of a loco. We'll also go into more alpha and transparency - tinted windows and how to get rid of that Xray effect....Keep an eye out on www.trainartisan.com
