RE: Turbotrain

I think it is the train with the big "nose" and i don't think it has been made for MSTS yet.

--You are reading my signature now, don't waste your time reading it!--
Eh, where did my signature go?
Where has my favourite LUL train gone? Maybe it was sent for bolt checking again...

RE: Turbotrain

Greeting all !
My name is Bill AKA Razor ,I am a 3D modeler and have recently closed my long running site Called Fightertown ,after many years of freeware and payware design for M$ flight sims and combat flight sim I decided for a change ,all our projects are still posted at Netwings ,simvation and a few others under my group name of Fightertown Design Group "FDG" I have been toying with Train sim for a while and growing up in a train family , My grand father was an engineer for many years for the Seaboard Coastline I came snoopin around to see what had been done here ,only to find SCL trains have all been very well done! blast! it wasnt till a friend of mine noted the Turbo Train ! Whoohoo! powered by an aircraft engine and even produced under a joint effort by some of the big aircraft firms ! and even better was that TSM was designed by Luis Synclair "Spelling mangled ,i know LOL" the designer of FSDS the program i used to convert and texture my ACAD models in ! I was going to quietly make it and surprise the world , LOL but ! I saw this thread and figured before i go to far i better make sure its not been done ! God i hope not ! anyhow the TT is in production in one of the old FDG hangers , I gonna use every trick i learned in aircraft modeling to keep quality up and poly count down .One of the main goals of the FDG was not just to produce quality add ons but to help new designers and we did this by posting all source files with an open copywrite that allows anyone to use our models to make , remake cut , slice and dice without havein to worry about someone elses property ! i am going to base my TS projects the same way and i hope they are well recieved !The new site is bein redone to leave some of the old Flight sim stuff and make room for some new projects. if anyone knows of this train bein done PLEASE burst my bubble now ! LOL i hate duplicate projects ! LOL If anyone is intersted in my freeware Combat Flight sim projects just let me know and ill shoot out some links
Anyhow more to come , glad to be around and enjoy ! after all thats why we're here Bill

Fantastic! I finally get a chance to thank the FDG guy for all your terrific CFS2 stuff. I realise that this is an MSTS forum, but the FDG models are pretty much all I use in CFS2 these days. Love your work, thankyou, thankyou thankyou!Cheers,

Nice to hear a Turbotrain will be worked on. It has been mentioned before but I don't think anyone has tried making one. Many curved faces on that train, should be familiar for one used to airplanes. The G&D tested a Turbotrain once, scared the ##### out of Emma who almost ran through the back wall of the Gorre engine house (if it had a back wall). The shop crew spent many hours cleaning that mess.

RE: Turbotrain

A search for "Turbo" on the UKTrainSim website just turned up 20+ files, most of them turbo sets. Though we might not have an American Turbotrain, there are lots of them to be had. I was on an Amtrak run from Chicago to Detroit - years ago - we made an unscheduled stop to pick up passengers from a Turbotrain which had broken down. There was lots of that with the Turbo, if memory serves correctly. If there is a "breakdown" factor in the .eng file, whoever does the US turbo should set it very high. The turbos here lasted a few years, Amtrak took them off the CHicago-Detroit run. I seem to remember an Italian turbo available on one of the Italian MSTS sites, but that was some time ago.Bing

RE: Turbotrain

And New Haven/Penn Central/Amtrak, though their trains were somewhat shorter. One holds the outright US speed record (170MPH versus the Acela's 168) although it reached that speed on special track. The Acela hit its speed on conventional track.

I am also interested in Rohr Turboliners or RTLs. They were originally delivered in Phase III paint and designated RTL I. They ran alongside RTGs into GCT and Penn Station an RTG caught fire in Penn Station. One turboliner was painted in a special livery and continued to run under the designation of RTLII. The other RTLs were sent in to Super Steel for rebuilding. The RTLII was withdrawn from service (although it could be seen being pulled behind a P32ACDM through 2002) and the first RTLIII was rolled out. The RTLIIIs are complete rebuilds and can operate at up to 125 MPH. They are in Phase V paint and started operations in the past few months or weeks.

first off , Matt , glad you enjoyed the FDG stuff thus far ! Post like yours is why we do it ! Thanks !
Nope im after the American Turbo ,made by the joint US/Canadian builders
I should be able to post a few pics this evening and im sure though M$ didnt hide the fact that this is almost the same coding as CFS2 with different file extensions ,i'm gonna need some help in the long run to set this up ,I have a pile of info on the turbo but one thing i dont have is exact dims for it , i even found a pic of the bar area seperating the engineer with a peice of plexi glass ,you could have a drink and look over the drivers shoulder , pretty cool ! Thanks for the replies !
Yup Fire Dats da one I think Amtrak was the biggest user it was introduced in a demo Amtrak Paint scheme.Bill

RE: Turbotrain

Anytime. Great progress on that one. Could you try to make a version in PC demonstrator paint (first photo on the page)?
Also, the RTLs would be a good follow up for this model. The first turbos (UA) to the most recent turbos (RTLIII). Did the UA turbos run into New York City or did they terminate at outer terminals? In other words, could they operate off of the third rail or did they avoid Penn Station and GCT?

(pokes head out of the sand)My Turbotrain is about 75% complete - however, I haven't had any time to work on any projects since I started a new job (or anything - I haven't used my home PC in almost a month!).I'll be moving to Barrie in two weeks, so I'm hoping that shortly after that I will be able to start work on it (among other projects) again.Brian.

RE: Turbotrain

I have to look a bit deeper but i think the UA TT was able to run on 2 and 3 rails ,i think i read somewhere that it could , i just put that texture on it to give ya somethin to look at I was goin to do as many of the different paints as i could ,because the main painted part of the engine is all one peice ,painting will be a snap cause its one texture for the whole side .hmm....Brian
I see ya stickin outa da sand ! LOL I dont wanna mow over someone elses project , i was not able to find any info anywhere that someone else was workin on one ,origanal projects are hard to come by .what should we do ?Bill

RE: Turbotrain

If he's doing the canadian version, just do the american version. But you have to find out first.

RE: Turbotrain

Maybe the models should be made the way the are. How many people have done duplicate projects of the small switchers? Lots more than 2. Maybe one TT will have something the other doesn't. Or maybe the designers could merge their ideas. Or lets just say the more the merrier. I can't wait till either one is available.JayTurbotrain – image 15 Turbotrain – image 16 http://www.freewebs.com/peterbiltsrule Turbotrain – image 17 Turbotrain – image 18Site now with new Message Board!

RE: Turbotrain

O and sorry bout the double post...I guess I should research a fact before I post, but I have only ever seen pics of the CN/VIA ones till now. Some of those American paint schemes are just fugly! and dirty! IMO The CN is the best paint. But the amtrak one Bill's working on aint that bad either. Could you post some prgress pics on your work mr. Viper?JayTurbotrain – image 19 Turbotrain – image 20 http://www.freewebs.com/peterbiltsrule Turbotrain – image 21 Turbotrain – image 22Site now with new Message Board!
