RE: When is the

That causes a problem because I don't want to use the old Amfleet cars because simply I don't know if the files of the new ones will replace the old amfleet especially the Phase IV since it wasn't in the game from the start. I delete all the consist that uses these amfleets. All I been using was the Acela Express to test the Activity with, but the timetable is different. And no an HHp will not be enough because it is rare to find ones on the NEC. Only the Aem-7 (Both Versions) are the only common Locos you can find on the NEC today.

>be enough because it is rare to find ones on the NEC. Only
>the Aem-7 (Both Versions) are the only common Locos you can
>find on the NEC today. Bull $hit! There are 15 HHP8s running on the NEC today as opposed to approx 50 AEM7s...
They are usually reserved for the heavier trains that used to draw the E60s... The twilight shoreliner (or whatever they call it today) and the Silver Service come immediately to mind....
The last 3 trips to Boston this year to see the Grand Kids were behind Bananas! The consists were all about 8 to 10 cars plus mail/material cars and the HHPs yanked them down the track pretty good IMO!
If I understand it the Motive Power dispatching priorities based on weight of train and assuming that the schedule requires the train to run at or near the MAS of 125 are as follows....
1 - HHP8
1 - AEM7ac
2 - AEM7dc
1 - AEM7dcNote that consists that used to use the E60s were limited by rule to 90 mph and the substitution of a Banana allowed some schedule speedup...

I never ask this before, but can guess just how fast the Aem-7 can go?and another thing I never said anything about this because the HHP-8 needs a total makover like the Acela Express had. Compare the HHP-8 photo I posted to the recently updated one in the game. They are both ones, and the biggest difference is the pantographs.

RE: When is the

I do agree the HHP-8 does need a makeover but so do the amfleets there not the real size the if you look at some of the other screen shots that NALW members posted with the AEM-7 and amfleets the AEM-7 looks smaller same with the HHP-8. I'm getting tired of the HHP-8 anyways!!! When the AEM-7 releases it will make NEC operations more realistic and finally a different cabview to look at:)
What would we do without NALW's time and effort into these projects.

>the biggest difference is the pantographs. MAS for the Toasters and Bananas is similar depending on the consist...Mechanically the Banana can "balance" at 135 and the toaster at 125... However both can easily exceed those max continuous speeds...
You would be reasonably accurate at setting the Toaster to 125 max and the Banana to 135....
Mechanically the Banana is an Dual Cab version of the HSEL (Acela Express Power Car/loco) with a lower gearing (135 continuous vice 160 ) and the computer reset to allow it to develop 8000hp continuous vice 6250hp on the HSEL. Its also ballasted differently which along with the lower gears allows a higher MTE and CTE... The braking system has also been modified to be compatible with legacy cars....The true limiting factor is the consist.....
IIRC the rules are
Amcans are limited to 125
Horizons are limited to 110 or 115
MHCs and Baggage cars to 110
Viewliners to 120
road-railers to 90mph

Wow I didn't know all that, a worker who works with these trains said when I ask him about the Aem-7 that it can exceed speeds about 130mph.

RE: When is the

So basiclly the AEM-7 and HHP-8 can do over 125 but the Max speed is only 125 on the NEC. The AC version should be able to beat 125 easily time to experiment with t-sim:)

The Acela express is the only thing Ticketed by the FRA to exceed 125mph in revenue service...BTW the biggest thing the AC version of the toaster has going for it is acceleration! The AC TMs and the vastly improved anti-slip system (some say the equal of the one on the HHPs and HSELs) allow a higher MTE for starting and a higher CTE....FWIW, The DCs and the ALP44s have a 2nd generation antislip system called Pressductor (sp?) which basically detects wheel slip by TM current.... IIRC the ACs and the HHPs jave a 3rd generation system that can cross check TM current over the ground speed detected by a doppler radar (?????) and Mr. Chip will vary the pulse Width and frequency to each individual TM where the Pressductor system could only vary current to the DC TMs....Chuck Schneider

RE: When is the

Correct Chuck,Modern antislip compares doppler radar speeds with axle speed, and keeps the axle turning 1-2mph faster than the train, except when braking. Thank Hertz for Doppler, it means that technically you should never have those rail-burns of which photos appear in the general forum from time to time, which will keep the track teams happy. As for AEM-7s and HHPs doing more than 125mph, no surprise there - Chase occured with the 'Toasters' reputedly doing 138mph. And with 7000hp on tap, it doesn't surprise me. Although it has to be said, 2x ~2200hp diesels used to do 140mph on 7 cars (Intercity HSTs) on what is one of the fastest sections of track in the UK. That was before the Health & Safety Expensive (duh, sorry, Executive) took over the UK. But they are only carded for 125, then 125 they shall do!A side question for you Chuck, concerning AE. When the tilt is manually turned off (NYC-NH), do the cars have a tendancy to roll side-to-side? It's a slight swaying motion. I ask, because the new Pendolino tilting trains on the UK's WCML (yes, it is a WC) supposedly have a tendancy to when tilting is off, although I personally did not notice it when I went on one recently. This will not happen when tilt is on, the tilt kit gives active suspension.

The MAS on the NH line west of NH is 79mph IIRC but all the construction around Stamford down to the NY state line and the MN traffic conspire to hold them down to 60 or so for most of the time and 30 going through the construction....

RE: When is the

Did a lot of research on the Chase, MD wreck for a paper in high school years ago... The train was doing 128 as Chuck stated - it was listed as technically speeding because it had one Heritage car on it. Therefore, it was supposed to be limited to 115, IIRC.Ol Ricky there, had his driver's license suspended for DWI - THAT alone should have sent up some red flags with Conrail... He'd had a history with this... He was high on the wacky tabacky at the time. Furthermore, some of the safety equipment in the loco had been disabled! And, while the Amtrak engineers died trying to stop their train, the Conrail crew chose instead to jump ship!------ BUZZ ------

RE: When is the

Well, the Pendolino was doing 100mph for much of the way, a distance of about 25-30 miles, with a slow through an intermediate station (Coventry), and with 1 stop en-route. MAS on the stretches either side of Coventry is 100, the limit through Coventry is 50 IIRC. The line is long straight-curve-long straight-curve much of the way, unusual because most of the lines I tend to go on are wide sweeping curves all the way, beautiful in construction but impossible to build. Any news on MN putting more superelevation and new catenary on their stretch, to give 110 running?

Also the track spacing is probably 1898 specs not 2003 specs as I understand it...>Any news on MN putting more superelevation and new
>catenary on their stretch, to give 110 running? I figure this will happen about as soon as pigs fly!
The line is fine for their purposes running commuter trains...For AE to run faster through here the track centers need to be spread a little more and more stations need run-through tracks....
More superelevation is not necessary as the Tilt mechanism could easily handle speeds up to 110 on the existing track except for the track being too close together (or the AE being too wide - depends on which side you talk to) forces a rule which mandates that all tilting be "cut out" west of NH and east of NYP....Better info sources on this would be Phil Moberg as he works for CDOT-Rail and Stu Guberman who runs for Metro North and may talk shop with guys who run on the NH line... ( He runs mostly LIRR and/or Empire Corridor runs IIRC)
