TSM/DirectX Error – image 1

Okay, I've got an interesting one here, and as far as I've been able to find, it hasn't appeared anywhere yet.For whatever reason, when I load up a project that I've been working on, the render window won't display anything, and TSM will pop-up an error saying "DirectX error(shows 8 hex digits here): Warning: Render target buffer lost! Unknown DirectX Error."And yet, when I go to export the model, it seems to export fine...Conbuilder doesn't have a problem with it either. And yet, MSTS won't load it.If this helps, it's an engine, about 8500 polys, with animated wheels, trucks and fans. Thanks in advanceDan

TSM/DirectX Error – image 4

MSTS wasn't running.I'm thinking that DirectX9 is the problem...I just ran the dxdiag tests, and there was an error at "step 32" of DX9...DX7 and 8 were fine.Dan

Others have had this problem also, me included. See the link below, common items seem to be Win98SE, Directx9.0a and Nvidia graphics drivers.http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/9733.htmlPaul

I've got the same setup. MSTS runs fine, TSM runs fine, but this engine doesn't want to load in MSTS, or render in TSM.Dan

This happens to me every time I Ctrl/Tab to MSTS while running TSM.It error box pops up on the screen when I return to TSM. I just hit the OK button until the error box(s)clear. The longer you are in MSTS the more "clicks" I need to do.A work around that works for me is to "expand view" in one of the three frame building windows. When I return then...no errorw.
The 3D view seems to be the cause or instigator of the issue.DonTSM/DirectX Error – image 6

Also, while trying Don's method, ( mine too), is sneak in a click on the save button, just as an added precaution against losing your latest work. Just in case! I've had TSM shut down with alot of those error boxes.Timtimmuir@wcn.net

The only time I get that error in TSM is when I have the perspective window active, minimise, go do something else that requires the use of DirectX, and return with the other app still active. If any other window in TSM is active when you use another DX application there is no error. The reason, TSM wants DirectX all to its self to render one wee window. Greedy little thing.mervyn@madasafish.comPS. Running DX9 with GF 4400Ti on 44.03 drivers in XP Pro.

TSM/DirectX Error – image 9

When it happens here, it'll be when TSM is the only thing running (except for Winamp, and having that open doesn't make a difference).Like I said earlier, I'm sure that it's because of DirectX9 not liking something in my configuration. So, will upgrading the video drivers fix this? A new video card? E-mailling nVidia?Again, I will repeat...Train-Sim, in and of itself, is not affected...it runs normally, UNTIL I try to load the engine.I may as well add my system specs, maybe one of you can pick out something abnormal.XP1800+

RE: TSM/DirectX Error

Looking at your comp specs they are not a lot different from mine XP2100+
A7V333
512Mb DDR ram
Geforce4 4400Ti
HDD 2x40Gb + 1x60Gb
WinXP Pro
DirectX9
44.03 video drivers, just upgraded from 43.45I have to say that with these new drivers I can have MSTS and TSM running together with no argument over who gets what for rendering.About the only thing on your list that DX9 might not like is the vid card although that in itself is not sufficient reason to change it. The problem is that the DX render engine is not working, and so TSM is unable to texture the model. That is the reason for MSTS crashing, it has an engine with no recognisable textures. About the only things I can suggest at present are,
A:- Try the new video drivers. You could also try the new Hyperion 4in1 Mobo drivers from Via.
B:- If A doesnt work. Save your TSM projects and textures somewhere safe. Uninstall TSM, reboot, and then reinstall TSM, put the problem project and textures back in and see what happens.mervyn@madasafish.com

RE: TSM/DirectX Error

I'm having trouble in TSM when working with 128x128 TGAs or BMPs. When trying to use a 128x128 TGA, I get an alert message saying "Max: 16384 Found at 0 0". Hitting OK brings up a similar message with different numbers at "Found at". The "Max" messages appear in endless succession...the only way out is Ctrl+Alt+Del.When trying to use a 128x128 BMP, I get the standard (and totally useless) "send/don't send", since I'm using XP.When using 256x256 or 512x512 textures, everything works fine! Here are my system specs:AMD Athlon 1.2GHz
512MB RAM
NVidia GeForce4 MX 440
DirectX 9.0a

RE: TSM/DirectX Error

The max image file size for TSM is 512x512. Anything smaller should work okay so long as it is a derivative of the 512x512. If you want to use the 1024x1024 you have to map to the 512x512, and make a larger image in your painting programme, using TGATool2 to make and export the larger ace to overwrite the original in the trainset folder.mervyn@madasafish.com
