We all know what that looks like in the sim. I altered it in several variations and here are my results:The first thing I did was to paint the image file yellow and then change the alpha channel to a solid black (without the puffs) in order to figure out what part of the image file is mapped to which puff (i.e. the ones in the air or the ones near the exhaust). Here's what TGATool2 looked like (minus the words in the boxes, of course):
And here's the result I got in the sim:
As you can see, that totally got rid of the smoke, which isn't what we wanted. So, I left the image file yellow, but changed the alpha to be completely white:
and got this result in the sim:
Totally black! Also not what we want. A grey alpha channel gave me this in the sim:
A light black, but no yellow. No alpha channel
Gave me this:
which is even darker than the one I did with a white alpha channel.Of course the alphas are in grey scale, so they are not related to smoke color, and my testing appears to show that the image file isn't related to smoke color at all, so the conclusion is that smoke color is related to something completely different than this ace file. Sorry! The good news is that you can use this ace file to brighten or darken the actually color of the black smoke, or lessen it's prominence (as I did in the pic showing 8131 in this thread) by adjusting the alpha channel. Hope this helps get things cleared up, even if it doesn't answer how to change the smoke color. EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention, I did try painting the original
YELLOW SMOKE (with a lot of interference from a mostly black alpha channel). I tried exporting this new image file and alpha channel to dieselsmoke.ace. Unfortunately, I didn't get yellow smoke, but I did get a sort of interesting result with the different alpha channel in there:
So I guess this proves that somehow the steamers allow for smoke color changes while the diesels do not. Someone more knowledgeable than me will have to explain that one!
