I Still Can't Seem To Get The RDC's

to work. I have followed instructions from the author (RDC_PAK) and from kind people here. Could someone please give me a step by step list of what to do. I have the Regional pak installed and want to create CNJ and PRSL Budd cars from the zip.
I know now who the village idiot is.....me!!!!!! Thanks.

Sorry, I'd try and help if I had the Auran original, but I don't. I thought I could offer you an alternative solution, since Benoit Sigouin's CN RDC1 Dayliner (cnrdc.zip) comes with its own cab and sounds, and I've gotten it to accept Jasper Burmester's lv_rdc .ace files, but the skins in Jasper's rdc_pack don't map correctly on the Sigouin car. I hope someone with the Auran will help you out; kind of hard without knowing more about what error mss. your getting, though.

Bud, Thanks for answering. This is the error message I get when try to load it thru ConBuilder:
The engine file auranbubm.eng doesn't have the line "Engine (" so it cannot be added to the engine list.
It's really frustrating...I used to ride the PRSL Budd cars alot back in the 60's. In fact the fastest ride I ever had on the PRSL was on RDC's. Several of them are now running on the Cape May Seashore Lines about 30 miles from me.

Hmmm... Did you open the .eng file to confirm that it in fact lacks a line beginning "Engine ( etc.," and if so, what did you find in place of it? And did you also try to make up a consist using the Activity Editor? I'm wondering if there's something non-standard about the .eng file on this car that ConBuilder is interepreting as an error.

You realize that an extra "Close Bracket" e.g. ")" after the lights or in the lighting section (where it happens most of the time) will cause the exact same error?????? Because it will cause "early termination" of the ENG file....

Interesting, and an excellent suggestion. If that's the problem, though, I'm surprised no one else reports getting this error, since it would no doubt have come with the model.

Chuck & Bud.......I have searched the file for the "light" bracket error but there are so many parts where light appears, and I know nothing of programming or writing files such as this. Back in DOS days I was lucky if I could write a batch file that worked.
I have attached a copy of the file. Maybe someone could find the error and send it back to me. It would be appreciated!! Thanks.Dick H.

Couldn't read that file, just a set of squares, stars and swords. Still, the Engine Statement is nested between the end of the lighting and the start of the diesel special effects, along with the first of the sound lines and should look like this Radius ( 0.5 )

OK, guys.....I got them to work, don't ask me how. The only problem is that they all show up in MSTS with the same RR name. In ConBuilder they all are the same AURAN RDC BC or BM. What must I edit or change, and how???? Thanks.Dick

It looks like there's a single .ace file for each one of Jasper's repaints. Does the Auran original use a single .ace file also? If so, then the re-skin ought to be fairly straightforward; and if not, there may be an extra .ace or two that you won't need to modify. I'd start by creating a new folder for each car I wanted to repaint; for example, create a new folder and name it NYC_RDC1. Copy the .ace, .eng, .s and .sd files from the Auran model into it, along with the cabview and sound files. Place the NYC_RDC1.ace repaint file into it, too. Rename the Auran files to NYC_RDC1.eng, NYC_RDC1.s and NYC_RDC.sd. Open the .eng file with WordPad and modify each reference line to the NYC_RDC1 prefix; e.g., change the Wagon line to ( NYC_RDC1; change WagonShape to ( NYC_RDC1.s ); change PassengerCabinFile to ( NYC_RDC1.s ), etc., until each and every reference in the .eng file has been modified for the new car, except for the cab and sound files (see below). Then open the .sd file with WordPad and change the Shape file to ( NYC_RDC1.s. Next, uncompress the .s file using Route_Riter, open it with WordPad and scroll down about half-way to the lines that say "images." You'll see a list of .ace files; there may be more than one of them, but you'll only be replacing the one corresponding to the repaint .ace. It should be apparent which is which; change it to ( NYC_RDC1.ace ). I believe that's it; I don't think you'll have to change the cab and sound references, though you might want to alias the .eng sound lines to the original Auran sounds to save a bit of space.

I want to thank you all for your help. Jasper sent me new files and they are ok, the Budd's show up in ConBuilding and MSTS. However I cannot find a compatible cabview. Even the auran_bubm doesn't work. Any ideas???Dick

I'm using Alex Hall's custom cabview from CP_RDC1 or CN_RDC1 with Jasper's lv_rdc. Try downloading either of Alex's repaints, double click the .exe and install the files to a temporary folder, then copy the cabview folder to your NYC, etc. folder(s), and finally change the cabview lines in the .eng files to "CabView ( RDC1.cvf )."Oops, disregard that; on reflection I think I borrowed the cab and sounds from Benoit Sigouin's CN RDC1 Dayliner (cnrdc.zip) to set up Jasper's lv_rdc, as I noted earlier in this string. I wonder if Jasper's new files would work on Benoit's repaint?

The reason I asked was a recent string on problems with ConBuilder that sounded like the ones you're having. If you have the same errors popping up in the AE, that's a dead end. Anyway, keep pluggin'. Sorry, but without the model, I'm out of suggestions. There's a real knack to fitting reskins and making other modifications, and over time you'll get better and better at it. Sometimes there's a problem with the repaints, too; nobody's perfect. I do wish someone with the model could come up with something for you on this.
