Wow!!!! Am I impressed.....kudos go out to Kurt Kaminer (cudak888@aol.com) and all the rest of his team on this absolutely astounding locomotive. The new cabview and authentic B40 engine sounds are fantastic! I have personally driven these units, and I mean to tell you, this is by far the most authentic sounds yet. The textures and attention to detail are superb also. This is a must-have locomotive, folks!!! Keep up the great work, these are fantastic!!! If you don't add this loco to your roster, y'all gotta be nuts!!!

Happy Rails,
Chaz
(BNSF Engineer)

Kurt didn't do a bad job IMO.However I'm partial to our GE sounds not those...Edit %hit forum just dumped all my constructive comments when posting an update to this post....Basically the algorithm Kurt used is similar to the one we started out with and then dropped because of skipping, especially when the PC is under load. It is based on the Kuju default Dash 9 algorithm.
We use, by permission, one originally developed by 3D Train Stuff.Sound samples are pretty decent IMO.Where did you get the compressor noise Kurt?
I can't find it on the source site you reference.
I know we had a heck of time getting our sample of that sound.
IIRC Matt Donnelly had to make several trips to Rensselaer (sp) to get a clean sample... IMO Horn is pretty noisy. (Back ground noise not loudness)No external Compressor sounds, Brake Rumble or wheel squeal.Chug is continuous and shouldn't be.
The chug only appears under load and its loudness is dependant on load.Other than that not a bad effort.
I like it. Good Start!Chuck Schneider

Being totally ignorant of horn technology I can't express any technical opinions, but I like two things about those included with Kurt's B40-8W: 1) Like the Ellington band's horn section, they start and stop predictably, so short blasts and prototypical signals are no problem; and 2) they sound more realistic, at least on my system, than any diesel horns I've heard so far on MSTS, judging from the current BNSF and UP horns I hear all the time here in OKC (don't know what the early carbodies sounded like). I can't quite figure out the installation, though; the alias files don't have the same reference lines as those in my common sound folder, which is where I assume the sound files went on install; e.g., I notice the alias sound folder has files named "d8cab.sms" and "d8eng.sms.," while in my common sound folder I have "KLW-generic_GE," with subfolders titled "ALIAS_SMS" and "KLW_FDL16."

BNSF B40-8W#517 Rocks! – image 4
BNSF B40-8W#517 Rocks! – image 5sooner: To eliminate confusion (I might have just caused more though), I placed the .wav files in an un-traditonal manner, which I will explain below:
The bell and compressor sounds are placed in Common.Snd\KLW_generic_GE, and alias files in the folder Common.Snd\KLW_generic_GE\ALIAS_SMS (NOTE: The horns that these SMS files are aliased to are not included with the pack).
The outside engine sounds are in the KLW_FDL16 folder, and the inside ones are in the KLW_FDL16\Isolated_cab. It was set up in this fasion as I had planned to put many more sounds in the KLW_generic_GE folder, like this:>Common.Snd
>>>>>>KLW_generic_GE
>>>>>>>>>>>>ALIAS_SMS
>>>>>>>>>>>>KLW_FDL12
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Inside_stnd
>>>>>>>>>>>>KLW_FDL16
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Inside_stnd
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Isolated_cab (I didn't find about the "Volume" line in the SMS files until later, which would have eliminated the need for the extra .wav files)
>>>>>>>>>>>>KLW_FDL16_HEP
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Isolated_cab The KLW_FDL12 and KLW_FDL16_HEP sounds never got off the ground though, the KLW_FDL12 sounds because the B32-8WH (canceled) was not done at the time, and the KLW_FDL16_HEP recordings I had were not good recordings, and ditched the idea of a P42 when I stopped working on the CSX South Florida Rail Corridor route.Take care!Kurt

Is it possible, that you may try to redo the B32-8WH Kurt? I was really wanting that model, when you mentioned something about it. If not, thats ok too. Thanks,

Hello Chris!Well, I know Scott Miller, who was doing the textures for me, has a copy of the latest version. However, the last time I got steamed at the community, my emotions got the better of me (as always), and I left him hanging with that project, unfinished. I feel I'd look like a darned fool ( which some members will tell you I am ) if I were to re-approach him about the project. He's already experimenting building another in gMax, and it'll probably be lower on polys and scaled better (ever matched up my B40-8W with another Dash 8 or 9? The walkways are 2 feet higher then they are supposed to be), so I'd wait for that one.Take care Chris!Kurt
