What happened to the FL9s that were being built? I know JC was doing one, and Kurt was doing another. I haven't heard anything about either of these two this year! Is there any progress, or have these projects been abandoned? If they have been abandoned, this might be a good project for 3DT, even payware. I'd still buy it. We NEED an FL9 for MSTS, and I mean BEFORE MSTS-2 comes out!NALW: I've been waiting since you announced this project originally in 2001 for this release. If you're not done, at least give us an update.Kurt: I heard a while ago that you decided not to release your FL9, which disappoints me because it was looking like it would be a great model.
Well, unfortunatly, even if I wanted to release that FL9, it was lost February, when my hard drive went bad (de-magnitized).The model was not all that good though - the front end curved in too much, should have been flatter (I fixed that on a Seminole Gulf F7A that I was working on....that was lost too. I don't think I ever showed it publicly).I was able to recover the Train Simulator files (not the TSM files) for GO Transit 904, which I had on a CD somewhere here. The FL9 model was based on this one, and I'll take a photo of the nose today to show you what I mean.Take care!Kurt
Kurt: ouch! good thing you backed up some of your files before it crashed. Your models are really good (GO, Trirail, etc...) and I think we all would like to see you continue modeling for TS. I've got the specs for the FL9 if you ever need them. If you decide to make it again, there is a book, Diesels to Park Avenue, that has some great pictures and information about the FL9. In fact, most of the specs that I have are from this book.NALW: Sadly, the FL9 has been retired from regular service. If you need sounds, operating FL9s are located in two places, though they might be hard for you to access.1. There are two FL9s at the Danbury Railway Museum in Danbury, CT. One of them was painted in New York Central by Metro North and the other was ConnDot owned and painted New Haven. They both use K5LA horns.2. There are also two FL9s at the Naugatuck Railroad/Railroad Museum of New England in Thomaston, CT. They are both ex. ConnDot and have been refitted with to their original Hancock Air Horns. They operate regularly over the 17.5 mile line.Amtrak has two FL9s stored up in Rennselear, and Metro North has some on the dead line in Harmon, NY. There might be a few in the Harmon Shops but they aren't used in regular service.
