RE: Schnabel Car uploaded

I didn't bother to look at the poly count, until you asked, being its 5 units tied into one....and as a whole it comes in just under 6100 polys...but each unit maxes out around 1200 polys except for the load which is 2440 polys.....I get around 24 fps on my practice layout which has all my buildings and bridges on it and on the NE Corridor it has 20 fps.....using no other trains and just 3 of the schnabels and my U50C.My system is a 1.8gig P4 with 512megs of RDRAM PC166 and 60gig HD 7200 RPM and NVidia GForce3 with 128megs of RAM.Rick

RE: Schnabel Car uploaded

Ok I didnt wanna to sound like a @$$, I was just curious. Did those run with the caboose behind it or were those stand alone and could be ran within a train. I saw one one day pulled with a SD50 and man that was the biggest car I had ever saw. But thanks once again for your schnabel car. Looking forward to it.

HI,I saw pics of it being run mostly with one or two engines (one lead and one behind)the reason was I guess that theses monsters needed that so they could be maneuvered around several adjacent track sections if needed.....as far as the MSTS version you can run it with any consist you want and place it within consists of any make-up.Though prototypically it was run just alone due to the problems encountered with the weights (1,415,000lbs) per load and curve clearances and speed of the units (seems 15mph or less was the travelling speed most of the time)....Here is a page that describes the units and the first pic shows the schnabels run with MOW flats at each end and a caboose trailing.http://southern.railfan.net/schnabel/schnabel.html

RE: Schnabel Car uploaded

The first file Schnabel.ZIP contains the same car and paint scheme, but it had the wrong pic and thr readme.txt was lacking.....the Schnab.ZIP file is the good one....I wanted Nels to delete the Schnabel.ZIP file but I guess it was lost in the translation.Rick

I intend to work on this car when I get back from a trip next week...so maybe two to three weeks from now it will be finished....I have no specs on this car and so I will wing it for the measurements...but it will be LARGE....between 175 and 200 feet long.Rick
