with the Jawn Henry getting ready to go to the paint shop, I am looking to the next project. I was wondering if anyone had scale drawings of the Pennsy S-1 Duplex. If anyone can give any help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

RE: PRR S-1

Hey Frosty,I believe it has already been modeled. Improvements on exisiting equipment is always welcome though.
If you are interestd, I do have a few ideas though: nobody has modeled Pennsy's 4-4-6-4 Q1 Duplexes, or even a correct N5 or N5c Cabin Car. Blueprints for all of th equipment is available at www.prrths.com. Just go into the national chapter, and look in the blueprints section.

RE: PRR S-1

No, you're thinking of the T-1 - wheel arrangement 4-4-4-4.
The S-1 was a single-build prototype - wheel arrangement 6-4-4-6; and has not yet been done for MSTS.
It was too long for most of the PRR's existing turntables, but Raymond Loewy's streamlined body shell inspired lots of artists to immortalize the engine.

RE: PRR S-1

A little background history on the S-1:
(ahem) The S-1 was one of the Pennsylvania's largest engines. As a matter of fact, it was so large, they couldn't use it on their turntables. This unsuccessful loco was eventually scrapped. I have wanted one of these since like December

RE: PRR S-1

Hey Jim,The Jawn Henry was one of Norfolk and Western Railway Company's Steam Turbine locomotives. Like The S2 turbine that Mike built, it used coal to build up steam to run several traction motors. Unfortunately for the Jawn Henry, it was extremely ineficient, and maintenance was costly. I think it was scrapped around 1957. Several phoos were published in model railroader magazine, but I cannot remember when. Does anybody else have any more info?

RE: PRR S-1

Well actually Tom you are mostly correct in that the Jawn Henry was Turbine-Electric drive.... However the PRR Turbine(s) were direct drive.... The Turbine was directly geared to the drivers.Chuck Schneider

S-1 is a duplex streamlined loco, the steam turbine you're thinking of is the S-2, it was my first project.

RE: PRR S-1

I can probably give you whatever information you need but I was wondering how it is going with the CB&Q Zephyr?
Please get back to me.
Thanks

RE: PRR S-1

the Zephyr has its basic shape except for the rear car. The roof curvature is giving me problems. I have a couple of pics of what is done so far. I tried a version 2 that would have had a 3D interior with windows cut out of the model itself but sections keep dissapearing in the sim so I will tinker with that when I have time. Any help on the S1 would really be appereciated, especially scale drawings, and clear pics of the trucks. The N&W J needs to have a total overhaul, which will be done if I have time. It has way too many polys for the detail that it has, I have figured ways to add detail without using too many polys and I think it would be easier to just start over with it.

RE: PRR S-1 Duplex

Well, I have found some photos that I have been working from, and I have a start on the boiler streamlining but the rest of it is going to take a while without drawings. Even the working drawings that give a rough outline and the dimensions of wheel bases would speed things up immensly. The Jawn Henry is just waiting for texturing, I have added a basic passenger view to the doghouse, it would be more interesting behind a big articulated steamer but it's still cool. If anyone has pics of the inside of the cab or dog house on the Jawn please let me know, I am thinking about trying my hand at a custom cab for it.
