Some users have reported having problems with the SP&S 700 model, specifically the Tools application DLLs. I've asked Nels to temporarily remove sps_700.zip from the file library until a replacement file with corrections can be uploaded. The joys of software development! Your patience is appreciated.Rick Grout

Rick,
Are you going to issue a whole new version or are you going to upload a patch or a fix of some sort?

Thanks,
Jim

The replacement file has been uploaded and should be available again on Wednesday. If you've already downloaded the model an everything works, there's no need to download anything again. No changes have been made to the model or to the functionality of the 700 Tools app.The problem had to do with the fact that I included recent system DLLs that were causing problems with some peoples' operating systems. The DLLs, which are redistributables from Microsoft, are supposed to be backward compatible, but evidently not so. I simply eliminated the DLLs from the download package. Most people already have these anyway.Again, no changes to the models. Don't download again if everything works OK for you.Brian B: I don't get the bell sometimes either. I'm not sure why this is, but I've read in other threads that there are only so many sounds that the game will load at once. I'm not doing the 4449, although as you know it sits in the Brooklyn roundhouse on next track over from the 700. Wasn't TA going to do one?John: No separate release of the Tools, as nothing about it changed. All: Thanks for your words of encouragement.Rick Grout

RE: SP&S 700 Repairs

Great locomotive! Love the sound and the way it handles!Wonder if I might offer a suggestion if possible. When packaging two different items in the install, would it be possible give the choise of installing either. After the installation of the tools program and the locomotive, I decided I didn't really want the tools program. There seems to be no way to uninstall the tools or locomotive. If all I have to do is delete the directories there is no problem. However if there has been info put into the registry that is beyond my capablities. As I said, a great locomotive. Keep up the great work.Mac

RE: SP&S 700 Repairs

Brian,Although I am a member of PRPA, it's only as a cash contributor and not as one who is involved in the upkeep and operation of the locomotive.Since the locomotive belongs to the City of Portland, i.e. to the public, access is no problem as long as you ask PRPA in advance. You can contact them (see the web site) or I can do it for you.Rick G

RE: SP&S 700 Repairs

Rick.
Just a follow up regarding the installation of the SPS700 tools program. I did as you said and just deleted the folders. However, my computer geru was over yesterday and he checked the registry. The SPS700 Tools is indeed in the registry with no way to uninstall it. Obviously, it is not a good practice to delete programs which are in the registry.

RE: SP&S 700 Repairs

Is it a message about a wagon line in the file not matching the name of the engine file? This is a VERY common (and also very minor) error that shows up with some locomotives. I've haven't downloaded the 700 yet. (but WOW! After seeing those screen shots, I'm going to now!!) If you use the Cosist Editor within MSTS to make a consist you usually won't get this message and it will just overlook the different names. But ConBuilder seems to be a little picky about that. Still, it's a great program and I think a heck of a lot easier to make a new consist than having to start up MSTS Editors and Tools. Anyway, just open up the .eng file and take a look at the entries...be sure the "wagon" and "eng" entries have the same name as the .eng file itself. But if this is the error message you were getting, it's nothing to worry about and you can just skip past it if you just want to do a quick test of the loco. Of course, just be sure that if you do change anything in the .eng file save it in Unicode Text format!!
