Is anyone intested in making a 4-8-0? If you are,how about Strasburg's 475? Maybe there could two versions, there would be a N&W version of 475 and a Strasburg version. Private message me for more info.--->Mike Huhn<---

RE: Can someone.....

I thought that the Norfolk & Western was the only road to use them. I have seen photos of several N&W 4-8-0's but haven't seen any others. Did any other road own them (during their common carrier service lives)? PS: I just thought I'd ask everyone to keep an eye out in the file library. You never know when BLLW will make a debut with its first equipment...

RE: Can someone.....

Several other railroads had 4-8-0's too, but Norfolk & Western had the largest fleet of them, and five of the six suriving American 4-8-0's are ex-N&W engines. In addition to the 475 at Strasburg, sister M-class no. 433 is on display in Abingdon, Virginia, and three of the larger M-2's (the heaviest 4-8-0's ever built) are rusting away in the Virginia Scrap Iron & Metal yard in Roanoke - they were sold there for scrap in 1950 and never cut up. Photos and info about the Roanoke engines can be found on the Lost Engines of Roanoke website, http://lostengines.railfan.net. The sixth surviving 4-8-0 is from the Southern Pacific, and is on display in Bakersfield, California.

The Great Northern ran 12 wheelers in the cascades in the 1890's and 1900's. Later they became regular freight power on the GN's Montana Central between Great Falls and Butte, MT.

RE: Can someone.....

Dear Mike,
Unfortunately, that locomotive, as well as the others at Strasburg, (except 2-6-0 89) is no longer smiling. The number plates, whistles, marker lights, and several other parts have been stolen recently. However, I live within 15 minutes of the railroad, my father works there, and I visit a lot. #475 is the only still operating 4-8-0 in the country, I believe in the world. (90 is one of only two decapods known to me) I would love to make 475. I made the route, but it was ruined with a new file. I made the railcar, its textures were destroyed. I may make the route again, and I will try to rebuild the railcar and some coaches. Anyone with help please email me at series_fourth_dimension@yahoo.com with any comments, textures, plans, etc.
Thank you,

Does you father work in the car shop? Everything about that place is top notch. The Lefever family is definitely one of the top restoration teams in the country. Please consider rebuild the route. I may be able to dig up drawings for the coaches and I know that there are plans available for the 475.
Take care

RE: Can someone.....

I'm struggling on the new model. I can't find any locomotive drawings. Kevin, PLEASE tell me where I might find them. By the way, my father works in the backshop, not the car shop, and he's also a trainman. Basically, nothing's done. To any one who will help me with the model with textures, plans, hints, etc. I promise I will give you a copy of 475 two weeks before it goes public. Just send me your email address and the attachment or website. Hopefully I can keep the poly count low this time...Joel Lefever

Yesterday I almost finished the shape for #475! I think it's very impressive since I've only worked on it for two days. The wheel animation works perfectly (Though you should have seen what it did the first time). I only need rods and small details. And, it doesn't have too high a polygon count. I'm working on some textures, but once again I'd appreciate anyone with a head start here. Next up 2-10-0 #90! I already have plans, but I can still use textures.Joel Lefever

Here are some pictures, everyone! Hope you like them!
I've included a sneak preview of #90.
(Yes, I know 90 looks a lot better than 475.)
I've done a test run on 475, but didn't take screenshots. Also, Kyle- you can do all the textures you'd like. Neither engine has any textures yet, so anything can be anywhere. Thanks!
I hope you can view the pictures.

RE: Can someone.....

Damn,Great work there. I am a fan of the Pennsylvania Railroad, Norfolk and Western, Conrail, and the East Broad Top. I looked at your screenshots, and I must say: magnificent work. So, what other equipment do you plan on modeling? just wondering. To correct you about the decapod, I believe #90 is a Baldwin Built 2-10-0 Russian Decapod. Over 190 or so of these were built for Russia in in the early 1915-17, but due to the Bulshevic (I hope I spelled it correctly)Revolution, they were stranded here in the US. They had their couplers changed, wheels regauged for our 4'8-1/2" Rail (the center was a blind driver.) They were then distributed to different railroads to make up for Motive power shortages. just a little back hostory. If anyone notices any mistakes, please correct me. But as i have said, great looking model...

RE: Can someone.....

TVRRMAN- You may or may not be correct. My father says it is NOT Russian, although I am (and have been) almost positive it IS. Weird. 475 is lacking a few of the minor details that bring 90 to life. At any rate, it used to haul sugar beets, I believe in Colorado, for, I think, the Great Western Railroad. That may have been a railroad which got their share of the Russian 2-10-0's. Thanks for the compliments, and as soon as I get the textures I'll start uploading. I want to do most of the railroad:
2-10-0 #90 4-8-0 #475
2-6-0 #89 0-6-0 #31
Maybe a "model" of 972, a 4-6-0 which they want to restore.
Possibly:
LO&S Hello Dolly
Open car 1st class cars
A few coaches AND THE ROUTE!
I don't promise anything, but these are the equipment I'm interested.

RE: Can someone.....

I'm the "new" old me, it deleted my ID from the database, so I just added myself again. I've been away for a while on a long, boring trip, and I'm taking a short break from 475, to get a chance to relax. Soon I'll have some new pix of my brother's added textures, plus I have an idea how to make trees visible through windows. I can still use textures. By the way, I have a suprise planned for the download library.

RE: Can someone.....

Well, now that you have gone through all the trouble of making the trees visible through the cab window you're probably not going to like this, but from most angles all you would really see through the real 475's cab windows is the boiler anyway. That's because 475 has what is known as a "deckless cab", where the backhead of the boiler extends all the way to the rear wall of the cab. The cab arrangement is very similar to a camelback, only further back. The engineer's position is squeezed in beside the boiler, and the fireman stokes the fire from the tender deck. I'm not sure what the supposed advantage of this cab arrangement was, other than to reduce the overall length of the engine by reducing the overhang of the cab. I suppose it also means more space to hide a larger motor while still having a detailed cab interior! Deckless cabs on new locomotives were outlawed in 1916, along with the camelbacks, but engines built before that were exempt, which is why we still have examples of both types around today. Any plans to to a cab view for her? That would definitely be an interesting project. The good news is that 90 has a normal cab, which makes her a lot more popular with the train crews. It also means that your window trick will come in handy when you reach that point on your 90 model.I'm looking forward to downloading both 475 and 90. Definitely looking good so far!

RE: Can someone.....

Thank you for your information. In fact, the only thing the "deckless cab" does for 475 is make every one of the engine crew HATE it. I've cab ridden it, and it's plain miserable. (90's awesome) The cab on 90 is much larger. A good match for it is the K36 cab available with the standard gauge K36's in the downloads library. I think I'll make a cabview special for 475, which will also be used on the "surprise"... Hint Hint. Unfortunately, it may take me a long time, and probably won't even come out with 475. I've never made a cabview before, but I know just how I'll do it, custom work and everything. By the way, I just found out that my new method makes EVERYTHING invisible through the cab, and it really is deckless, since that part is invisible. I will change it back to no-tree, but 90 will still need the solution.
