RE: Thunder from Downunder: Sneak Preview

That looks great, you have a lot of detail, what is the poly count??

RE: Thunder from Downunder: Sneak Preview

The polycount at this stage is 9700 with a few modifications left to do. I may try to replace the handrails with thinner ones and it may also have the uncoupling rods and bogie steps added. The model will not be released without a proper 82 class cab, and maybe sounds, but the cab is a must. All I have to do now is learn how gmax does texturing. Nothing simple I'm sure.Thunder from Downunder: Sneak Preview – image 15

To me the hand rails look a little to thick or it just may be the screenshot, but apart from that your 82 class is very will detail and looks correctly prototype. Can't wait to download this one.

Do you think it is better than your bulldogs? At the moment, I believe the best Australian models go...Craig Scott - 82
James Brook - All models
Everyone else - All other models
Aussie Cow - 421lol
BTW, Craig built this one in gmax, so I don't know what the problem was but I do know gmax rarely stuffs up. Projects

RE: Thunder from Downunder: Sneak Preview

This one was built entirely in gmax. It's the 3rd 82 I've built now so I've had plenty of practice. The problem was the Xform. Every time you rotate or scale something in gmax or 3d max, you have to reset the xform then collapse the stack again. Sounds like a nuisance and a load of unneccesary work I know but that's the only way I could get it to work. The 3d max one was deleted as it had progressed too far to reset some of the objects correctly and the one I built in TSM would not export. TSM won't export anything over 3400 polys for me at the moment. The new model works so it's obviously not a fault with msts. All I have to do now is texture the bugger so I hope the paintshop I parked it in does a good job. Took me hours driving around in MSTS to find that shed too. Otherwise James you might have to tell me which shed you park yours in! Thunder from Downunder: Sneak Preview – image 24
