Ooo ge44tonner, just the person I need to ask! Haha, I was wondering where the fuel filler is located on the real locomotive? I have a fuel tank below the can, but I have no idea where I should route the fuel tank filler pipe. This is kwk100 and I'm 10-10 on the side.KWK100's GE Locomotive RebuildingUpdates (Jan 9 2003)GE 44 Tonner V2.00 and the 5 Ton Brownhoist nearing completion. RE: GE 44 Tonner Update!

Hi again, kwk.
On the older GE 44-tonners, the fuel filler is located on the running board behind the cab on the left side, the side of the cab which does NOT have a door. The area is behind and sheltered by those curvy gusset panels. Has about a 2" diameter pipe with a threaded cap, and sticks up about 4" above the flat surface of the running board. Some units have a second pipe, about 1" in diameter, which houses a dipstick-type fuel gage. The area is always oily from spilled fuel, and on most units someone takes a doormat, metal grating or chunk of plywood, cuts a 3" hole in it and throws it down around the filler to make the footing less slippery. Usually a stain from spilled fuel visible on the outside edge of the frame in this location, too.On newer GE 44-tonners, the fuel filler is a recessed fitting on the firemans side, below the battery box doors on the side of the cab. The visible part is an arched cutout in the side sill about 6" across. About a 4" threaded pipe cap covers a pipe descending on about a 45 degree angle to the tank below. Usually a chain secures a swivel bolt in the center of the cap to the side of the recess so that the cap doesn't get lost. Invariably a stain of spilled fuel on the side of the unit below the filler. My film scanner has gone bad-order, or I'd see if I could find you some photos. Hope the description helps.Edit: fixed a dumb typo.
Dan

Yup that helps! Here is another shot of the locomotive with fixed texture mapping, the little bit of blue on it will be fixed tomorrow by doing a little touching up of the texture files. This is kwk100 and I'm 10-10 on the side.KWK100's GE Locomotive RebuildingUpdates (Jan 9 2003)GE 44 Tonner V2.00 and the 5 Ton Brownhoist nearing completion. LAST EDITED ON Feb-11-03 AT 09:19 PM (EDT)

Okay, I have finished adjusting the textures for the locomotives as I have heard that there were problems with the mapping, specifically on the hoods. I think that I am going to have to put something between the trucks, maybe a big gear box, I need to fill in the space under there. The wheels will be redone shortly, and I need to add lights to the .eng file, and I need to add wipers.EDIT: I forgot the most important part, pictures! And I will be adjusting the trucks, however they are done in 3D, but they aren't too detailed. This is kwk100 and I'm 10-10 on the side.KWK100's GE Locomotive RebuildingUpdates (Jan 9 2003)GE 44 Tonner V2.00 and the 5 Ton Brownhoist nearing completion. RE: GE 44 Tonner Update!

Sorry if you've already answered this, but are you going to do anything further with the pilots? They still look incomplete. Otherwise, very nice model ... and great improvements!Ray

RE: GE 44 Tonner Update!

Great looking for this rebuildingAbout some problems of reskinning, when you have a surface with all elements you can make some compromises to obtain a good result. But when you have just a square box to reskin something, you can't do nothing except to put the basic color. With your first version we can't do something with the truck like wheatered this, cause is just a rectangle on the upper left of the template.Other exemples with the roofs of Enocell's boxcars, acf-hoppers of Alabama Railfan you can do a lot of varieties but with the roof of Trouble Pryor's Hihop Hopper it's impossible cause it's a rectangle box.Hope these informations help you. Thanks again for your great model, NicoberGE 44 Tonner Update! – image 11

Okay, I will fix this! All I need is a good, closeup side view photo of a truck, preferably with as little weathering and grime as possible (incase you want to skin a brand new locomotive). Thanks! My email is: thetrucknut@shaw.caOh, the model is not finished yet, however I will be in need of beta testers when I get version two into the game. Please email me at the above address if you would like to beta test the model. Be sure to include "44 Tonner Beta" in the subject line so that I can automatically organize the beta test requests! Thanks again!!!And please keep the suggestions coming! This is kwk100 and I'm 10-10 on the side.KWK100's GE Locomotive RebuildingUpdates (Jan 9 2003)GE 44 Tonner V2.00 and the 5 Ton Brownhoist nearing completion. RE: GE 44 Tonner Update!

I think I have what you want, a photo of the truck (side view) but I'm not sure it's from a GE 44ton. The photos I have of a similar engine are close of your work. I post one just below to give you an idea.GE 44 Tonner Update! – image 13If it's a GE 44 ton I'll work to an other from the side view to send to you a picture of the truck.GE 44 Tonner Update! – image 14
