RE: I would

There are some Pacifics and Mountains in the FL but the mountains need the ESE cab or something. Just type in "Mountain" or "Pacific"Hope this helps

RE: I would

Passenger engines were usually in the 4-x-x configuration (x being any number). Freight engines were usually 2-x-x. Any like that should do fine.

RE: I would

Among the frieght locos I use are the 2-8-0's and 2-8-2's cause they are really great at pulling a lot of stuff

RE: I would

Excuse me...but in my experience 4-8-2 Mountains and 4-8-4 Northerns were used in both freight and passenger service as were many 2-8-4 Berkshires! The number of wheels under the lead truck assembly of a steam locomotive did not dictate the type of service the locomotive would be used in!

Well, you are right, but he said "Usually", not all.

Service Dictation

Very true, "pony" truck configurations have nothing to do with freight or pasenger service. What would be wise to look at however, is the size of the drivers. Larger drivers (like 80 inch) were most likely used for fast passenger service, while engines with smaller drivers were used for longer, heavier freights, or for pulling steep grades. The pony truck just goes along for the ride.- dispatcher618

RE: Service Dictation

To add my 2 cents. Right. Driving wheels were a big factor. Bigger wheels were for the most part passenger service because of more speed. The bigger wheel gave more speed, but less power for pulling. Freight used smaller drivers for more power, but in some cases gave up high speed. Like in case of Bigboy, they had 68" drivers so could reach 70 plus, where as Pacific class (4-6-2) had 72 to 78" and could reach 100 plus. The Berkshire was used in both freight and passenger service becuase of its wheel configure. It was well known and used for fast freight. Am I close?

RE: I would

Looks grand with its clean lines. What are the initials on the sand dome? Of all the wheel arrangements the "Northern" IMHO is the very best of them all! Would love to see a ATSF 2900 Class or a C&NW H Class on the head end of any train.

RE: I would

Thanks, Don.The initials are SP&S. This is Spokane Portland & Seattle 700 which can still be seen roaming about the Northwest from time to time. For more information go to http://www.sps700.orgThe model is in beta testing. I expect to release it in about a month.Rick
