Walker Railcar Question – image 2

Hmm I'm not thinking of building one but I was wondering if you could have the middle part with the engine in it and drive from the front unit? VRFan you might know what I mean... and any other Victorians.

RE: Walker Railcar Question

LAST EDITED ON Jan-05-03 AT 05:10 AM (EST)

Are you talking about how to make one in MSTS? I haven't really thought about doing this, some others here may have an idea. For those of you who are wondering what a Walker Railcar is, here's a photo of it:Walker Railcar Question – image 3The railmotor has a central power unit with a passenger carriage articulated on either end. This railmotor (91RM) is preserved by the Daylesford Spa Country Railway (http://www.chtr.org.au/) and is currently the only operational Walker railmotor of this type in Australia. The DSCR is a railway museum specalising in railmotors and trolleys of the Victorian Railways. Fully restored diesel railmotors are operated over a scenic 9 kilometre section of the former Carlsruhe to Daylesford branch line in Victoria, Australia. The DSCR is operated and maintained by The Central Highlands Tourist Railway.--Victorian Railfan Web Site:

RE: Walker Railcar Question

Yeah its been done, in a manner of speaking. An american set with the locomotive at the end and a controling trailer has been done - basically you make an eng file for the trailer instead of a wag file, and make it basically powerless.Walker Railcar Question – image 11 Walker Railcar Question – image 12

RE: Walker Railcar Question

It is technically possible. And pretty easy actually. When creating the model, create the central section, and position its axis centered to the part. (aligned to the world) then, make the two exterior sections (in this case the wagons) and align their axis to the world. To make it track right however, you must position their pivot points about a foot in front of the connection between the wagon and power unit. Then, align your bogies as usual, their pivots in the center, and link them to the various wagons. THen, link your wagon to the main. Your higherarchy should look thus:
Main>
Wagon1>
Bogie1>
wheels1>
wheels2>
Bogie2> (if needed)
Wheels7>
Wheels8>
Wagon2>
Bogie3>(if needed)
wheels3>
wheels4>
Bogie4>
Wheels5>
Wheels6>And yes, the wheels 8 and wheels 7 will animate. I can give more details on this if you want. It's really easy to do.

That middle part is the engine housing but it can be controlled from both ends provided you have the controls.

RE: Walker Railcar Question

I'm not sure if the DSCR has the plans to the Walkers. Probably the best thing to do would be to write a letter to the DSCR explaining what you would like to do. They may be able to assist you. The postal address is on the web site.

I've found them. I'll scan them later, if you want them that is. No front view either. Side and top. The top shows all the seating arrangements as well. If you're interested, drop me an email at shagwa_v12@hotmail.com and I'll send them right over.------------
