Is anyone planning on taking up the challenge of making a model of Bullied's Leader engine for British Rail in the '40s, one of the most revolutionary and ignored engine in steam history? I think it would be quite hard, but you people are good enough.Harley

RE: Bullied

Looking at that picture at UJTS, it looks more like a Diesel than a Steam!

RE: Bullied

That's why it was so revolutionary. You didn't have to turn it round. The fireman was in the middle feeding two huge engines.Harley

RE: Bullied

Sort of. The driver had a cab at each end of the engine, and the fireman/stoker had some space in the middle. It was all rather hot and cramped for space and did not work very well.mervyn@madasafish.com

RE: Bullied

Not exactly.Looking at it from a profile view, you can see two cabs. One in the front, one in the rear, situated over those HUGE bogies.bascially, the loco was a HUGE boiler contained in a streamlined shell. If I remember correctly, the boiler was to the "Back" of the locomotive, with the coal being loaded to the "front"Truth be known, this thing didn't have a front or back though. The design was not only revolutionary, it was something that could have proved to be useful. the only problem was coal dust filtering into the "engines" (bogies) and making a bit of a mess with the gearing. In the end, the locomotive was just simply withdrawn from service and scrapped before any further improvements could be made. However, if you want to see something cool, look for the surviving Q1 that the bluebell railway has. This little 0-6-0 tender loco has approximately as much power as larger locomotives. In fact, it is the STRONGEST 6 wheel steam locomotive built in great britian. Ever.
