I did not know which forum to place this in - Locomotive design or Engine & Livery skinning.I just uploaded the three Farmrail GP9's to the TrainSim Library Monday night and already there are a few downloads of it. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I enjoyed creating it. I have plans for two more versions with the headlights dropped down onto the nose, one with dynamic brakes and one without. My problem is that EMD company built so many different versions of the GP9, I am not sure which would be the most needed. There were two fans, four fan models, with and without winterizing covers and on and on. Are there any preferences that might be considered first? Pictures would be helpful. All engines will be in the Farmrail colors plus I am working on texturing maps for each of the texture files. I have tried to make these engines reskinning friendly but then I am only human and I may have goofed here or there. Constructive suggestions are welcome as I would like for everyone to enjoy these and future engines I create.George - wctrr

Hey these are great models and no matter what you create they'll be welcomed I'm sure, I myself like em all(what everybody makes)it's great to have such diversity at our disposal to be able to run whatever you like whenever you like.
Cant speak for everyone but I'm sure most will agree, If you're good enough to share your hard work with the rest of us for free then prefrences are not an issue. Thanks again, and great work! John

RE: Chopped Nose GP9

I think if you put two cooling fans on the long end of the locomotive versus one, you will be ok. I believe the GP18's are the ones with just a single cooling fan on the long end. Also, if you do the non dynamic brake version, you may want to consider doing "torpedo boat" GP9's. They may be popular among MSTS users.Ken

RE: Chopped Nose GP9

Also, if you can try to raise the short end nose up just a tad. Chopnosed units usually are chopped higher than the factory low nose units. You may want to reference a pic of a chopnosed unit (not a factory low nose) from the side view. That would help you out.Ken

RE: Chopped Nose GP9

The last phase (Phase 3?) of GP9 had the two large fans (one on the front, one on the rear). It was the precursor to the GP18.Andre Ming

RE: Chopped Nose GP9

George,
Nice engine. I was wondering if you have plans to redo the texture map on these? I was trying to repaint it until I found the hand rails, dynamic brakes, nose grab irons, number boards and nose misc items were all textured to the same color square. All in all you have done a good job.

RE: Chopped Nose GP9

Howdy!!!
Just wanted to tell you NICE work on the geeps!!! Now for an added bonus, the one with the metal number plates ahead of the dynamic brake blister....THAT IS A MILWAUKEE ROAD UNIT!!! YAHOO!! Nice to see that detail added!!OK< a couple of requests...if I may...First, can you make the afore mentioned unit with a high nose? Yea, I know the whole point was for low noses, but with just the little addition of the other half of the nose, I can make us SEVERAL MIlwaukee geeps!!! (I will, however reskin the one you made into a 'Psedo' Milwaukee GP20! )The other request is to make a four-fan version, and remove the lone dynamic brake fan on the one without the blister. (preferably an four fan non dynamic, non winterization hatch)YOur work is great my friend!! The CNW had over 150 chop nose GP7-9's and your units fit right into that catagory!!!Also, the two-fan non-dynamic unit is PERFECT for the Wisconsin and Southern's fouor ex-RI GP9's (4490-4492)!! The two-fan dynamic unit is perfect for the WSOR 4494, which is ex-MILW!!So you see, you have made me a happy man!! If you don't make the above changes, it is OK too. I am just tikled pink to see chop noses!!
Now I can bring a little more of my "home lines" to MSTS!!THANKS for the hard work!! The Farmrail scheme is cool as well, in case I didn't mention it!! Thanks again!!Kelley D. Ellison

RE: Chopped Nose GP9

Thanks for the interest in my GP9s. As soon as I can get most of my texture mapping problems solved, I will conisder some of your suggestions for my next projects.
Erik, I believe you were talking about the 316 because it is the only one with number boards. I have redone the body texture map for all three engines as the main thing I want is to have them reskinnable (is that a real word?). I have included a picture trying to show what I did. Hope this will solve all of the problems. Please email me as soon as you can, as I would like to get this cleared up, so I can update the 3 engines in the MSTS library.
George

Farmrail Updated to Version 2

I have uploaded Version 2 of Farmrail GP9 engines 316, 317 and 331 to the library. I remapped the areas that were brought to my attention that would make them better candidates for reskinning. I have also uploaded mapping templates for the version 2 engines to help in making these engines into your favorite roads paint scheme. If no other problems come up, I hope to upload two more GP9s with the headlights moved down onto the nose and four fans on the body, one with Dynamic brakes and one without. George - wctrr

RE: Chopped Nose GP9

I have uploaded two more GP9s in the Farmrail colors. The template for the first three GP9s will also be usable for these two. EMD made so many different configurations for the many railroads who ordered them plus after years of service some of the railroad remodeled a lot of the GP9s, there is no way to model all of them. The 297 and the 3648 will be the last unless there is a big interest in some one configuration or variation. Let me hear from you if you have an interest in a low or chopped nose GP9 that is different from the ones I have already modeled.I have also uploaded the GNBC GP10 #8335 and a template for your convenience in reskinning it. At the moment there are no plans for another GP10 engine. I have interest in some other low nose and/or chopped nose Geeps that I would like to start working on. So again, if there is a particular GP10 and enough interest in it, I’ll look into modeling one. When you reskin one of the GP9s or the GP10, it would be great if you could post it in the Screen Shot forum. I would love to see all of the different road colors these Geeps came in.George - wctrr
