Hi there, Those may be CalTrain now, but those are DEFINATELY rebuilt CNW Pullman-Standard cars. The interiors are completely different in them now. Sigh...miss the old girls!!! The new Japamerica cars (Amerail/Kawasaki) cars just dont get it like the old CNW ones do!

How about the old Burlington gallery cars? I spent many a fine journey from Union to LaGrange Road on the upper level. Has anyone done these, or the newer EMD units that pull the cars? I haven't found the old E-9's yet but maybe haven't looked hard enough (???).Bing

I think they were E-9's weren't they? Then when we have all that. We can do a Union - Aurora Burlington route, complete with LaGrange Road station and have frozen passengers on platform in winter activity. Frozen waiting for train which never comes, or when it does is an hour late and you cannot get ON the train because people are - literally - hanging out the doors. They almost fall out when the train makes the compulsory stop, opens doors, closes doors and moves out, having loaded nobody because nobody can get on.Ah, those were the days ....Bing

I think those maybe originaly Southern Pacfic as SP was about the only road outside the Chicago area to run the gallery cars but I don't think SP ran them push pull so no cab cars

Hey there, Those are definately CNW cars. Northern Rail Car did the upgrades. The SP cars were 6 window I believe.

Any trip to Elmhurst meant a stop at Al's to look at whatever was new and one at the Smoke Shop, a few doors down, to look at the paperback books while my father bought tobacco. Wow. Long, long time ago.

Actually MOST of SP's were six-window panels each side of the doors.Cars 3700-3736 were the six-window cars, built in the 1950's and had NO window tinting.Cars 3737-3746 actually were four-window cars, and had bare metal entry doors, these cars were built in 1968. They also had a greenish window tinting.Right, no cab cars on SP. The cars in the photo were loaners from a rebuilder doing the Caltrain Nippon-Sharyo galleries.

You're correct, those ARE ex-CNW cars. They were being loaned to Caltrain by the company rebuilding Caltrain's own cars....I think they have disappeared from Caltrain now that the rebuilding project is complete and new Caltrain cars (both galleries and Bombardier tri-levels) have been delivered.Caltrain's own cab cars had Airchime K5LA horns centered on the roof. The ones in the photos have the two sets of two-chimes, ex-CNW cars.

YOu bet I am interested - what did you use for the loco? The cars look good to me. I pulled a fast one on my son one day when we got off the train at LaGrange Road. I grabbed him by the arm, pointed down and said, "Look at the DETAIL on those trucks!!". He gave that look, said sure Dad and we went home. I don't think he got it.Bing

He got it, he just doesn't appreciate his old man's sense of humor.The loco is a repaint of the Conrail units available in the library.Give me a couple of days to upload these. Still recovering from the big game (OSU 31, Miami 24... woo hoo!).
Gonna be a long time before we see another one like that.

Basically, it is a double decker train car used mainly on commuter railroads. What it is is you've got the first floor, and then right above the seats on the first floor are single seats on the upper floor. The single seats on the upper floor and the seats on the first floor create a gallery, so then you've got it-gallery car. I'll post the best picture of what I am talking about. Hope that made sense.click on the link in my initial post and you should see what I am talking about.
