This is ONE MAJOR BUG that must be removed from MSTS2! I have a new loco under 4000 polys and it won't work. I've tried everything, removing parts, joining parts, building a heirarchy, removing the heirarchy...you name it, and yet MSTS still spits the dummy.I have 2 other locos exceeding 5000 polys and they work, don't ask me but this seems to be a random error with no explanation however I've never managed to get anything to work over 6000.It seems that TSM or MSTS have set an invisible poly limit and nothing I do will change that. I've addressed all forseeable solutions but to no avail. What does one do, quit modelling?Suggestions welcome; except to quit, I know that one already. It's some time since I've used TSM (I prefer G-MAX). I had a model I couldn't export, no matter what I tried. I then made a new project and imported the parts from the previous project one by one starting with the main part. I tried exporting and checking after each import to see which part was the problem, surprisingly when I had imported all the parts from my original project it worked so I guess the error was in the project file. You could try the same procedure if you haven't all ready

Thanks for that idea Brinch, I gave it a go but MSTS had other ideas and yet again refused to load the model. It didn't matter what order I loaded the parts in, at a certain poly count it just refuses to work.I would also prefer to use GMAX but I don't know enough to even start with it. I couldn't get the diagrams to display clearly in it for a start and then couldn't scale them to the correct size.I don't know if this 'UID Crap' is a TSM or an MSTS problem but I think gmax and 3ds users may have had the same problems in the past too. Thanks again though for your suggestion. RE: This UID: Can't add car to world error has gone too
Craig,I have got the UID crap before, but I doubt my reason would be the same as yours. It is probably to do with TSM, check the numbers of parts in your heirarchy, TSM has problems sometimes with more than 20 children on a parent. It might also be caused by too many polys on a single sub-object in the heirarchy.Regards, Sam Barnett

Sorry it was dead end too.. GMax seems a little tough to handle in the beginning, but there is lots of good tutorials, though not for train sim. The back drops are one of the weakest parts in Gmax imo, no matter if you are using polygons or the built in function. I find the modelling tools some what better on the other hand ( in particulary Boolean functions ). I think I'm getting there with G-Max, now I just need to find the right project and the time time to finish it.
RE: This UID: Can't add car to world error has gone too
I had the same problem. I reached a point where I could no longer add any new parts. So I started looking at parts that had already loaded. By luck or whatever you want to call it I found one part, that when included would load ok but would not let most other parts load after it. It let two or three load immediately after it, but anything beyond four was no go. After removing the offending part, I was able to load all other parts and got it running in MSTS. I then went back and created a whole new part. I got it to load also, and everything is now fine. By the way--the offending part was my handrails. I usually start with one long rail and then rotate points to put the rail in the proper position. So what did I learn--in any given window (front, side, or top)you can rotate your image around two axis. If you note, it seems that picking either axis can give you the rotation. What I found out though was I had to select the axis with respect to the original orientation of the rail. So for side rails, I always had to rotate about "Z". And for end rails, rotate around "X". So now whenever MSTS doesn't like my model, I'll load three or four parts at a time and try it. Sometimes I'll go right for the whole thing minus rails, and I sometimes luck out. I load my rails or any rotated parts last. They tend to give the most problems with displaying textures. They might look ok in TSM, but MSTS doesn't always like them. So is this what's wrong? Who knows! But it's helped me a few times. Hopefully it can help you.Dave

It has happend to me. You just need to keep on trying. I think it is the number of parts are added the a object tha causes the error. http://groups.msn.com/MSTSNarrowGauge Jonathan jonathanmlewis@msn.com
