What settings would I place in the eng.file to have the headlights on dim when I start an activity? The settings for bright lights would also be welcomed. Thanks in advance.
You need to read the doc on lighting that is on Disc 1 of MSTS, it may also be in you TECH DOCS folder for the game. I think you can have the lights on all the time, but if you do, then the dim, bright switch will not work for that engine.
Claude by default the sim starts up with the lights off and you must turn them on manually.... There maybe a hack in the engine file as there is a parameter that may apply and here is an example from a Dash 9 ENG file; Headlights ( 0 0.25 1 0 )But I haven't found any documentation on it in the tech-docs and it hasn't been real high on my list.... Hey Claude, If you are willing to accept a compromise, I edited one of my locos (can't remember which off the top of my head) to these 3 settingsOff - Dim headlight no ditches Dim - Bright headlight Constant Ditches Bright - Bright headlight Alternating DitchesThe only thing is that the loco stays like that until you re-modify the *.eng, or restore it.... KH( P.S. Chuck S, did you get the email I sent you? )
Yes I did!BTW, And I love it when they use something we invented at NALW... (The working ditchlights hack)Chuck Schneider Chief Cook and Bottle Washer North American Locomotive Works
I had to hunt it, but if you have already downloaded my file "upflag70.zip" which was replacement skins and a replacement engine file for T/A's original SD70s, incidentally which is from almost exactly a year ago 12/19/2001, then you have an example. You still will need to refer to the "How to specify lights" doc in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\Techdocs folder to get the drift of it all. I'll email you a copy of the engine file anyway. KH
