Hi all,After taking a short break from locos, I'm now finishing off the S. Here is my latest progess. hopefully it will be ready within a week or two. As you can see, the first will be S300 "Matthew Flinders". BTW, I've also started playing around with a VP van. This will be next out of the workshops when the S is complete. --Victorian Railfan Web Site:

RE: Australian VR S class diesel electric

This is the one I've been waiting for !!!That's Sensational James, Top quality once again.A while ago I toyed with the idea of doing an S-Class, but then I found out other people were doing them so I changed my mind.I want to get into 3d modelling and now I have Gmax I'm trying to learn it (a steep learning curve indeed).Question: You obviously use scale drawings, Where do I get some from? Thanks in advance.I've been working on some GM's (resized e8's). Notice I only used mild spectecular lighting so it wouldn't hurt that gentleman's eyes. Here's a quick previewKeep up the good workCheersFreightking

RE: Australian VR S class diesel electric

There is a Clyde drawing of the B class in the back of "The ML2 Story" by Peter Bermingham and there is a 42 class in "Early Diesel and Electric Locomotives of the NSWGR" by Mick Morahan. I also have my own personal photo collection as well as the great photographs in these books to use as reference.BTW, I also plan to change the model into the GM and 42 at some stage in the future. --Victorian Railfan Web Site:

RE: Australian VR S class diesel electric

Hi AdamI've already done 3 CL's that should be released shortly on steam4me.I made them to tow my Indian Pacific. They too are only resized and reskinned e8's, but it was the best I could do until now. The files were uploaded a while ago so they shouldn't be far away. Here's the promotional pic I recieved a few days ago.CheersFreightKing

RE: Australian VR S class diesel electric

As most are already aware, I have started re-skinning James' S-class diesel as WCR S302. The screenshot below shows the progress being made on the nose section. However I need help with the sides. If you have any photo's suitable for this please send them to my e-mail address listed below.
Regards
Matthew Davis
E-mail address: matthewd21@hotmail.com
P.S. I will contact James before releasing it.

Hi all,The 1960's S is finished and I'll probably make it available tomorrow. Tonight I converted the model into a 1980's VR S and V/Line S. Now I just have to adjust a few details on both models to finish them off. --Victorian Railfan Web Site:

RE: Australian VR S class diesel electric

Hi Matthew,I don't plan to do those liveries at the moment. One problem with the Steamrail livery is that it would require the top of the nose to be re-mapped. I won't be doing this until I make the NSWGR 42 class.--Victorian Railfan Web Site:

Hi adam,If you like I can send you the .s file without the specular lighting, but it's fairly easy to change it using "Shape File Manager". http://www.highworth.freeuk.com/Follow the instructions and place the files into Train Simulator\utils\ffedit\. When you want to use the program, double click on the "sfm.hta" file in this directory.First off when you open the program it looks like this:Australian VR S class diesel electric – image 26You need to un-compress the .s file before you can do anything with it. The menus appear when you hold the mouse pointer over the "options" button.Australian VR S class diesel electric – image 27Then you need to click on "Texture Modes" once it's uncompressed:Australian VR S class diesel electric – image 28Here you move anything in the "Hi-Shine" column back to "Normal" and then click "OK" at the bottom.Australian VR S class diesel electric – image 29When you have done this, re-compress the .s file:Australian VR S class diesel electric – image 30BTW, always backup the .s file before you use SFM. It can stuff up the model if you don't use it correctly.
*****************************************************************
As for the Alpha channel, simply use Tgatool2 to extract the .ace files.http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/train/tgatool2.htmThis is what the different areas of the program look like:Australian VR S class diesel electric – image 31If you want to send the main image to your editor click "Send main image to editor" under the "Image" menu:Australian VR S class diesel electric – image 32In your editor, save whatever you do to the file that TGAtool2 creates. When you are ready to get the image back into TGAtool2, click "Reload after edit" in the "Image" menu. TGAtool2 will load the image from the file that it created when you sent the image to the editor:Australian VR S class diesel electric – image 33Now, to convert the image into .ace format, click "Ace (Alpha)" under the "Export" menu. This will convert it into an ace image with the alpha channel that is displayed in the top right of TGAtool2. Australian VR S class diesel electric – image 34--Victorian Railfan Web Site:

Once again, those locomotives are fantastic, especially if they're built with TSM.I however never got SFM to work. I would click on Uncompress and simply nothing would happen. Is there some issue using it on Win XP?Australian VR S class diesel electric – image 36

I'm using normal TSM and you are correct that I can't legally sell them unless I purchase TSM pro. However, If I couldn't make enough money to cover the cost of TSM pro, then it really wouldn't be worth selling them. Anyway, this is only a hobby for me and I can't be bothered spending the time or money required to turn this into a business. I would rather be making more trains! --Victorian Railfan Web Site:

RE: Australian VR S class diesel electric

Depends on the weather ..... with three boys and the weather getting hotter to the weekend (40oC/104oF on Sat), they'll want to spend every spare moment in the pool this week (and I'll just have to supervise them); I'm flat out at work so can't sneak onto the PC in the office - in spite of that I am aiming to be able to upload it by the end of the week, once James has given it his seal of approval.Basically, need to do the ladders, portholes, side grilles. Once B65 is done, I can tackle the passenger nose and hopefully use that texture to do some Ss.As you no doubt discovered with the teacup B, James has done an absolutely wonderful job on the textures and it's a challenge to try to reach his lofty standards. I also need to acknowledge James' superb support in providing modified .S files to enable me to texture the side ladders (done now but not in the image above) and the brake gear for the passenger B (silver/grey bogies) as well as the inside of the horns. Thanks James.RegardsYuri.

Ah yes, the joys of having one's own swimming pool You're quite right, James has done a brilliant job with the textures, once I got started it was so easy to get everything else done. Just started re-skinning the S into ASR colours and once I've got a bit further I'll post some piccies and seek James' approval. Mike.

Hi all,Just a quick update. I noticed that the anticlimb was a fraction too low. This is noticeable on the WCR livery that Yuri is doing where the yellow line along the bottom of the body is supposed to go through the centre of the anticlimb. At the moment, a part of that line is in the top 1/3 of the anticlimb. I'll update all my models to correct this error and upload them to Railpage when it's back online. --Victorian Railfan Web Site:

The passenger livery is proving a challenge - strange looks from passengers at Spencer Street yesterday as I'm photographing and measuring B61's sides. If I can get B61 right, the Ss will be a doddle.A little progress over the past few days....... see belowRegardsYuri.
