An article in the TRAINS magazine say they are to be delivered in 2003. Get this, they will have Flared radiators, North American cabs, and standard control stands. They will also have a modified logo. So if any of you skinners would like to get a head start I wouldn't mind.

You are correct Troub, every RR BESIDES NS has desktops in their widecabs. Every -9 that NS owns has a control stand for example.
Only widecabs NS owns with desktops are the units that were inherited from CR and the 10 SD70Ms that they currently own have desktops.

After all, desktops are hard to drive "backwards" right? Thanks John for the info, though. I was about to go to my SD70 model and start flaring some radiators Now, I might go ahead and modify my cab view for the wide nose, though. I like the NS/Conrail control stands with the monitors on top of them.

Not quite yet, but it's getting close. I'm to the point where the texture map is being worked out. Still some small things to add/fix on the model (couplers, railing, etc.), but it's getting close I was going to ask if you still had time I'll send you some email in the coming weeks. Thanks,

IC had lots of black SD40-2s. To be prototypical, mostly only the 6200's had dynamic brakes, though. I can get you a logo. I have found that regular old Times New Roman works GREAT for the cab side lettering and the numbers. You can check the fallen flags site for lots of pictures. I'd like to do some IC repaints on the new model, but I probably won't have time

I understand. Personally, I've never been really interested in CR/NS stuff, but I figured I was going to have this nice spartan SD70. . .I'll send you an email later. . . Depending on however you'd want to do it, you could just send me the plain black, and I'd logo and letter it and give you the main credit, or send it back to you for you to upload or do whatever with (I know it's often very time consuming to repaint these things, at least the first time, while preserving the little details from a flat .bmp or .tga). Or, I can send you logo, and you have my font recommendation . However you want to do it.

RE: 50 sd70ms for NS

They will have, as said before, standard control stands, and the cab will sort of look like those on UP's 8522 series SD90MAC II's. With flared radiators, I think thats gonna look kinda funky.

CN also uses control stand's, except in the sd50' sd60's and Dash8 40 CM's.
All the newer SD70's,75 and c44's have control stands.
Its probably because it gives the engineer more leg room. I never sat in a desktop console but at a control stand there is alot more leg room... ALOT!

That's interesting. I had read that some of the IC administration merged into the CN administration from the acquisition. . .I don't know when the equipment you mention was purchased, but you say "newer." I wonder if the same person who spec'd out the relatively "oddball" IC SD70's had/has a hand in purchasing newer CN equipment.I got a cab ride in an SD90MAC, and though I'm a tall guy, I didn't notice any shortage of leg room when I was sitting at the desk Or maybe I was just too excited to notice. . . I know that NS had purchased the spartan SD70's with a control stand because they run their units long-hood forward so much. Maybe the control stand just gives more operational flexibility? It's probably also cheaper.

I'd say NS got the control stands because they are cheaper and the boys from the old Southern still like running long hood forward. Sort of a "tradition" of something... Like I said earlier, NS has ordered EVERY one of their Dash 9s with control stands.

It's not that uncommon to run long hood forward, NS isn't the first to do so. The PRR had their GP7's and GP9's set up to run long hood forward as well as the C&O and B&O.
