Hi, I am making an FBI train. I want red and blue lights to flicker on the outside lights of the HHP on bright. I have found in the eng file where to change the colors, but its something like "fffffff", what would I have to enter to make it blue? red? Also, If anybody knows, how would I make them blink (like the blue lights on a real cop car)
You need to read the lighting document that came w/ MSTS, I believe it is on disc 1. In fact you could put all of the documentation in a subfolder called TECH DOCS in Train Simulator. After you have digested this material, then look in the wag or eng files of equipment that have blinking EOT devices, and you will know as much as anyone.
First The way you decipher these values if they are hexidecimal numbers broken up into 4 values (Pairs) intensity, Red, Green, Blue. Each ranging from 00 to FF (0 to 255 in decimal), So for example FFFF0000 would mean the color Red at Full intensity. 00FF0000 would mean Red at lowest intensity (Off). FFFFFFFF means white full intensity. You can use any combination to make colors along the same priciples of RGB.
Thanks to ya'll for telling me this, but now I've ran into another problem, after I edited the eng file, when I run Train Simulator, it comes up with an error message that says that there's an error on line 542. Does anybody know the problem?
Basically it means you've stuffed up, lol! The pop up message does give a hint though - open the eng file and try to count down the lines (or use a program that numbers the lines, I'm not familiar with wordpad or anything, can it be done?) to find the offending line and you'll find the culprit there or near it.The most likely problem is that you have left out a { or }. If this is not the reason, make sure you have not got too many lights - at the top of the lights string you specify how many lights are to operate, and if you exceed that below you will get errors. Simply increase the value of the number of lights and it should work.Of course this is guesswork, might I suggest you attach a section of the .eng file to your post if you cant fix it? The .eng file is real mongrel of a task to get right, as I have found on countless occasions (which is why I do a lot of posting at 3:30am sydney time . . . )
I almost went mad trying to figure out the light colors until I did a hexidecimal search on the web. I was trying to make green and amber lights for my Superliners. Try the link below as it lists all of the possible colors and thier codes. It was a life saver for me. http://www.aristotle.net/~clowers/htmlrgb.htmSo from this helpful chart, it looks like blue lights would be 3333FF. But there are many shades of blue to choose from so do take a look at the link. Hope this helps. By the way, anyone figured out how to activate lights by braking yet? I'm still trying, but nothing yet has worked.
