Just getting onto light work and remembered that I've seen the flashing red lights on the rear of the cars at the end of consists. I've seen them in ALL locations, all over the car.Aren't they supposed to be located just over the rear coupler? How far over, 1 foot? Thanks

I would believe that the higher up the device was, the more visible it would be..The railroad up here uses them about halfway up the back part of the freight car; sometimes within 3 feet of the coupler..Hope this helps; even though other railroads might use different heights..FRED light location? – image 3

I came across on here I believe the fixes for the freds position as on the default cars they aren't.Check train-sim or also railserve for the fix.

RE: FRED light location?

On The BNSF, the fred clamps to the side of the rear coupler of the rear car. It is approximately 30 inches tall by 6 inches wide. When mounted on the car, the light is about 4 feet above the top of the rail. When post picture when I get some new batterys for my camera.

RE: FRED light location?

Thanks.Do you know how long it takes between blinks?
And how long the light is on when it turns on?From the wagon files I've looked at, the light turns on for .35 of a second, then turns off for the same time, before relighting. Does this sound right to you?

RE: FRED light location?

Timed a FRED today. 8 flashes in 10 seconds, which works out to 48 per minute, 1.25 seconds between flashes. Length of flash is very short with long pause. Make it .25 sec on and 1 sec off.

This also depends on the RR....BNSF flashes slower then most...UP and KCS are the same, CSX, NS probably no more then a half second different. Amtrak uses either BNSF or a red marker when they have freight on the end...Brian E. Bundridge

RE: FRED light location?

I also went and timed visually CSX FRED's. Came to the same timing as above. I set a test FRED to that and it looks MUCH better. I'm off to change all my wagons. I understand that different roads used possibly different timings, but I can't do all the roads in MSTS different. I only know that the default setting for all is TOO fast, TOO big, and not bright enough.Good going, guys.
