Hey all!I just wanted to let you know that I have finished writing the modeling part of the tutorial. I will have the remaider posted tomorrow morning sometime along with downloadable documents for those who like to work offline. In the meantime, I complied the project and ran it through MSTS. RE: TSM Tutorial - Modeling Section Complete!

SD-45X 4,200h.p. SP had three or six, im not sure though, and EMD had a few demonstrators. But I think the SP is the only one to bite on it.
Quiz time for you, when were they retired?

RE: TSM Tutorial - Modeling Section Complete!

Looking at your user name, Chad; I can see why you knew the answer! As to your question, you win! I never kept track of the comings and goings of the various locos that closely. Just photographed as many as I could when they were running; and learned of their demise while reading various R.R. literature. Miss all the great stuff that SP & Cotton Belt had on their rosters though, don't you ??? Ron K of Rockford

RE: TSM Tutorial - Modeling Section Complete!

Brian, just a quick question--I've been following along with your tutorial and all has been going well until PSP7. I have the cab images built, I saved them as .tga and then built the alpha channel and saved it per your directions--24 bit uncompressed + 8 bit for alpha, and then resave as .tga. But whenever I call it up in TSM, I get a blank blue image. Am I missing any special PSP7 or TSM settings. I have built transparent models previously using GIMP and TGATOOL. Any help would be appreciated. Dave

RE: TSM Tutorial - Modeling Section Complete!

Brian, forget I asked. Something about TSM saying I was trying to load a 36 bit image at 513 by 513. It seems that 0 to 512 is 513. I forgot that the 0 counts. I cropped my images at 1 to 512 and now they work. Just one silly little byte. Sorry if I wasted your time and other forum members who had to wade through my question. But look on the bright side--my problem may help someone else. Keep up your excellent work!!!Dave

I said a while ago that I was gonna go ahead and scratch-build a locomotive.A FICTIONAL one at that.
Now, here I am learning my ABC's of modelling, and I go through the tutorial and find out that I also need to know how to add, subtract, and figure out floating-point calculations.Mebbe I'll start the loco in a few months, after I get some more experience with TSM TSM Tutorial - Modeling Section Complete! – image 10

RE: TSM Tutorial - Modeling Section Complete!

I am having great difficulty in making the doc version print the included pictures.
Would it be possible to convert the files to pdf, so that you are not using a mail merge to add the pictures to the text?
Thanks.

RE: TSM Tutorial - Modeling Section Complete!

Brian,Thanks for the "how to book" on building the SD45X. It just happens to be my favorite engine. Saw DEMO 5470 at the Frisco Yards In St. Louis back in 70? Of course I didn't have a camera. Couple of questions. What version of Paint Shop Pro are you using and are you scaleing the grid in PSP and using the dimensions from the MR drawings to draw the .tga files or do I even have to worry about scale at that point? Thanks Again,
Dwight

Hi Dwight,I'm glad you liked the tutorial. For those of you wondering, I just got back to work this week, so I should have them converted over to .PDF soon.I'm using the latest version of PSP (v7.04 I believe). As for scaling in PSP, the answer is yes and no. You don't have to "scale" per-se, but you need to crop your images as close to the dimensions as possible. For example, when you obtain an plan for a MR magazine, they usually have a lot of extra "whitespace" around the image. What you should do in this case is crop using the dimension markers as a guide.Perhaps this is not entirely clear. Let's take a sample of one of the plans I have kicking around (in this case, an RSD-15). In image one, you'll see that the dimension lines go through the couplers. Beyond this, there's extra whitespace that we don't need. Since we'll need the exact height of the hood too, this needs to be cropped as well. So when you crop, you should crop according to the guides, and to the maximum height of the locomotive (not including the bell, fans, etc.). In this case, image two shows exactly what should be cropped. If this is still confusing, let me know! Brian.
