Since the Moffat Tunnel was built in 1917, these cars and Double Stacks aren't allowed through it, tho that didn't stop one hapless UP engineer who was new to the sub take off the top row 3 cars behind the locomotives....Rob

Railfan727,The 20' 2" rack looks great. One little note (not a flame, but constructive criticism), the 20' 2" racks ride at the same level as regular racks (see pic below). They are just higher. Yours look great, except that they ride lower than regular racks. Just an observation Can your tunnels clear THIS? – image 7Photo by Michael Peterson @ Ames Yard, IA, 1/7/01. Hmmm....According to information on the Thrall Car website (www.thrallcar.com, a great resource for modelers!), a standard autorack's A deck (the flatcar itself) is 3 feet, 5 1/2 inches above the rail, while a 20-2's A deck is 2 feet, 7 1/2 inches above the rail. That's what I based my model on, sice I didn't have any photos (other than ones from Thrall's site) at the time.Maybe the design was modified at some point during the production run?

RE: Can your tunnels clear THIS?????

I dunno how it could be the same height either with the smaller wheel sets? It doesn't matter to me though, I downloaded your car anyway because they look great and the 20' 2" cars give a little more variety in an all-rack train!Keep up the good work. Just one more question. You did the two different BNSF cars with the big logo, are you going to do the yellow car with the small green/blue logo on the end panel, between the ladder and first set of alum. panels? Just wondering what other RR's you were doing, because you surprised me (pleasently) with the 2 BNSF cars already released!Chris Denbow - Baltimore, Md.

OHHHHHH yes!!! Those are most definitely in the pipeline (along with a lot of other stuff). I haven't even gotten to my personal favorites yet. Some highlights:
- 4 (possibly 5, if I can obtain adequate documentation) different CP Rail/Canadian Pacific versions
- 4 more CN versions
- and a surprise rare roadname (for autoracks, at least)!!!! Also, I reworked my 20-2 shape files so the rack rides at the same level as the others. I substituted 28-inch wheels in place of the 33-inch wheels from the standard rack to represent the 20-2's noticeably smaller wheels, and altered the roof to represent the flatter roof profile necessitated by the higher sides. Can your tunnels clear THIS? – image 10Can your tunnels clear THIS? – image 11Let me know what you think...If it makes a noticeable improvement, I'll include instructions with it for using this shape file with the UP textures already released.

RE: Can your tunnels clear THIS?????

I think that a potential problem here is that all of the "regular" 89-foot racks don't ride at the same level. I'm away from my sources right now but I believe that some racks ride on 28" wheels while others use 33" wheels. In addition, there can be siginificant differences in how the underlying flatcar is set up. Some ride at a "normal" height over their trucks while others snug down pretty low over theirs. I think this is directly related to whether the car is carrying a bi-level or tri-level rack in service.Henry

Don't worry, those GTWs are in the pipeline. The scheme with the entire sides painted blue is one of my personal favorites. Haven't seen one of those for a long time.

Chris,What did you think of the reworked 20-2s (as far as the roof shape and everything)? Also, I can't make one of those CP autoracks (and I really want to!) unless I have a car number and a photo of the logo. Would you be able to take a photo and e-mail it to me, or tell me where I can find one? I couldn't find one in the "reverse image" at either George Elwood's site or RailARC.That was the 5th CP scheme I needed documentation on! I saw a couple of those in Anderson, IN a couple of years ago, and haven't seen one since (and I have literally thousands of autoracks in my personal video collection). Must be extremely rare...If that's the case, congratulations on a rare sighting!Bruce Bridges
railfan727@yahoo.comP.S. I finally saw my first locomotive in CSX's new colors a couple of weeks ago: SD50 #8661 (a former Conrail unit) on Q364 at Ingalls, IN (mp QI260 on the Indianapolis Line). And that's after doing at least a little bit of railfanning virtually every weekend.

Sorry, no photos. No car number either. I watched the power go by, and then went back to drinking, and only saw the rack because it was two from the end and I caught it when I turned around to catch the helpers on the rear.It was exactly like this one, only with red letters on a white background instead of white on red:Can your tunnels clear THIS? – image 13Photo by David R. Chris,What's your e-mail address? The one at the CPL site gives me an error message when I send anything to it.Also, what do you think of the 20-2 rack now that I've reworked it a little bit?

Bah, even If my tunnels cant clear it, I'll run it anyway! I'll just put 5 ac6000's on it and force it thru the tunnel, or until something breaks

RE: Can your tunnels clear THIS?????

I don't think it will fit in any of the 437, or whatever the number is, Hisatsu tunnels.Actually, they will fit -- if any of you haven't already tried it, the top of the MSTS stock US freight cars just "melt" into the overlying rock and exit the tunnel unscathed! I suppose that's what happens on the other routes, too.Rick Vernon

RE: What are the default auto racks?

A standard autorack (which I have also made in both bilevel and trilevel versions) is 19 feet even from the rails to the top of the roof. The default autoracks (the brown Santa Fe ones) are roughly 15 feet high and the roof contour's WAY off. The yellow ones look to be about the right height, but are too short (only three full-width panels at the center instead of five as on the prototype and my models).

RE: What are the default auto racks?

Yes, Kelley, in fact I can use some skin shots. If you happen to see any of the rare Canadian Pacific variety with red lettering on a white background (instead of the usual white on red), I'd appreciate some close-ups of the logo as well as a shot or two of the whole car. Also, if there's a BNSF variety with a large green-and-blue logo (I think there may have been a few painted that way during the transition from the early large logo on a Mineral Brown background to the current small logo), I'd like a shot of that too.I'm kind of taking a break from the auto racks right now while I add scenery to the Indianapolis Line, but I may paint up a few more next week. Thanks!Bruce Bridges
