Wondering what thoughts are about developing some UP GP Geeps are, Specifically the GP9B and GP30B's. also the experimental GP9's with the elliot or air research turbocharger configurations, these had the additional vents cut out in the doors on the sides of the diesels. These would be ideal to run with the 8500 and 4500 series turbines. Some nice photos of these can be had from Overland Models Mail in issues bulliten #95 & #99, excellant resources for modeling. I'm using these to model these diesels in N scale, that should driv'em nuts on ebay. I'd attempt to do them for the train sim but man are my hands full now. JG. I recall that the UP GP30B, and a regular-cab UP GP30, was made as part of a series by 'Columbus Locomotive Works' last fall. Unfortunately, the CLW web site was closed only few weeks or so after release of the models, and they have not reappeared anywhere else. I missed out on it, but maybe someone here on the forums has the file in their personal collection and is willing to share with you. Dan
Yeah it's a shame the CLW offerings have disappeared, looks like they had some nice stuff! I'm still looking into the possibility of doing them with the train sim modeler by abacus but I need to know how good this program is before I go buy it because if I'm gonna do it I'll be doing it from scratch and learning how to do it as I go and want to be sure the design program is up to the task as well. JG
I used TSM briefly and it got me started in 3d modeling. However I have since switched to 3d canvas and find that to be an excellent program. You can try out the free version to see if you like it or not. The free version doesn't have as many operations available and is not able to export to Train Sim. You can get by with the LP version, but I would definately go with the Pro version. There are constant updates and improvements coming out for 3d canvas and the support is excellent. You can check them out at www.amabilis.com
Thank you for the information on the 3D canvas I will give that a good hard look see. The train sim bug has bitten and I can't resist the temptation, mmmmm lets see, an ATSF SD45-B might be nice too!. Well need time to evaluate the 3D prg's out there, here we go. JG.
For what it's worth the following screen shots are an SW8 I'm doing that's being developed in TrainSim Modeler. Making the model has been the easy part. The real work is making the texture bitmaps in a paint program. I'm using Paint Shop Pro 7 for that.Stew
Hi Stew, Say that looks pretty nice! I'm impressed with the imagery, which is what I'm primarily interested in. If I can get the images that good and run into trouble with the rest perhaps I can colaborate with someone else to do some other things and release it as a combined effort. Thanks for the input! JG
