Currently under development down at the carbarns, is a crummy to go with the Bigboy and all the other UP steamers, The U.P. CA-1 Wooden Caboose. Hope to deliver by next week-ish.
I fought all day with "UID200000" and got it sorted, and took my first look at it "in the world".Cheers!
Tim,
One more caboose then I'm back to Traction after this one.:

RE: Union Pacific Steam Era Caboose

Well, I'm glad for that, wpfan, cause I was thinking-"oh, no, now I'll have to make the SP version". You took some weight off my shoulders!I've made the texture mapping fairly easy to follow for the re-painters out there. I don't intend to do the yellow version at this point, hoping that someone else would do the honors. I've got a pretty full plate in front of me, lots of unfinished work I really should do, like the Brill Semi-convertible Streetcar I've been tooling around with for months, and a little project for timken. Thanks for the positive comments, mates!Tim

Currently I'm trying to find one of AMB's C-30-1 kits so I can measure it. I was over at the California State Railroad Museum library and thought for certain I would be able to get drawings there. I could not find side or end elevation drawings. However I found drawings for everything else including the sink, arm rest, seats, you name it. I will definately be doing the SP version soon, currently I'm working on an S-12 class 0-6-0 and it will need a true SP caboose to go with it. If I can ever get down to Sunol I plan on trying to make some recordings and see if I can get some cab shots of their real S-12 to use as a reference for custom sounds and cabview.

How about some of the later "C" series cabooses like the C-11 or was it CA-11? (70's era) Ron K of Rockford

Beautiful job on this caboose. I hope that the talented members of the forum will do this caboose in red with the more modern neo gothic lettering and, of course, in the yellow scheme. There is also a aimilar style wood caboose with a baggage door used on branch lines. E mail me if pictures and data are needed. drmtf@yahoo.com

RE: Union Pacific Steam Era Caboose

When I do release this car, I plan on it being in the redder shade of brown. It looked fine in the paint program, but in the sim, it seems too brown. From my sources, I understand the standard UP color at this time was almost a Tuscan Red on their cabooses ( called N0.11 Metallic ).

RE: Union Pacific Steam Era Caboose

Actually there will be a passenger view in the crow's nest, or cupola. And the markers will be lighted. I wont be putting too much detail into the interior, tho, to keep the polys down.Tim

RE: Union Pacific Steam Era Caboose

Hey Tim,That head out view is really nice. I spent a lot of hours with that view while riding with my dad. It was great view from up there, you never new what you'd see. Once, along Puget Sound (I was about 14) we passed one of the beach areas and there was 2 girls, nude in the sun, on a flat house roof!

perfect I like that better than inside I athought about poly count just after I posted it but didn't have time to edit it I'd rather have a headsout view. will it work on other cupola cabooses or is the cupola in a different position then the usual ones just wondering. I really think that's really awesome. the headsout view lets you see more than inside u should have a inside view too as a different button like try to make it so u have the inside the cupola and have up arrow take u to headsout if possible if not make an unused number take u to an heads out and it would be really cool if you could light the cupola at night since you sit in it I'd like that! or will that effect the poly to much I do activities and not design I just like this fourm the best. if you need a beta tester send it to me and i'll give ya feedback. like how slow it the game runs with it I usually make up a consist of just the tested cars and then one with 20 cars and one with between 50-100 so just tell me if you do want a beta tester (I play the game 20/6 *4 hrs for food and sleep and 1 day for work*) and know a lot about how rolling stock and engines typically feel me having all but one of the cupola cabooses which I'm going to get in a few minutes but it looks awesome!
