(TSM)
Okay, I built my flatcar, converted it, ran it in MSTS OK, didn't like the texture mapping, so I re-mapped it in TSM and converted it again. This time it crashes the sim with the UID200000error-"Can't load car C&LE Flatcar in world" and then the MSTS death-card (send-don't send). I didn't change anything but the texture mapping. I tried re-converting it into a fresh folder after deleting the original and the consist files (have the original in the safe), this time it shows in the connsist editor listing, but no picture in the thumbnail. The specs for the car are in all the appropriate fields in the consist editor, but no view. I tried to make a train with the invisible car to see what would happen, but that crashes the sim again.
I tried the search engine for this error, but it came up with some stuff not related to the question at all. So, if anyone with experience in fixing this problem could point me in the right direction, please please please, give me a hand. Thanks.Tim

RE: Trouble Loading Car in World After Retexturing: UID

Welcome to the troubleshooting with MSTS...ok, this UID200000 error :you have :
- too many polys (I don't think you have too much)
or
- too many vertices
or
- too many parts
or
- too many polygons per part (stay under 600 for a part, it also keeps TSM working better)
or
- too many parts linked to one part
or
- pivot points not in right direction...
or
- etc. There are soo much reasons, just give us a few specs of the car (poly-count, linked Parts, etc.)I had this one, too, here MSTS just doesn't want to accept my smoothside dome car, and it especially didn't want the dome itself, so I broke the dome up into several parts and now it's running fine...
MSTS is really strange, we we'll try to help you out !!Never give up !!Jens-Chris

>if
>anyone with experience in fixing this problem could point me
>in the right direction, please please please, give me a
>hand. Thanks. Yes Tim,
In this case, This is nothing to do with parts and polys at all... and if Jens had been listening to what you said he wouldn't have typed the reply he did. The answer here might also solve Jens Chris's own problem with his new projects that he says on the forum are not being accepted by MSTS, if he feels like listening to it.OK lets solve this one for you.....The answer is to do with texturing. WHY? well 1) because you know it worked in the sim before you re-textured it. 2) Because there are certain things MSTS hates. and this is one of them.To solve this you first neen to pull the model in and remove all the texturing and material properties... Start with a completely clean model to apply your paint to..Then retexture it using texture wraps, avoiding painting individual faces as much as possible. Then once you've done that do the areas that are individual faces or groups of faces... MOST IMPORTANT: Avoid painting a texture onto individual or groups of faces that have animation in them if you can. One or Two areas is OK but the more you do that have animation, the more it affects MSTS's available rescourses and leads to this texture promoted crash out.In this case that is your problem. Individual face textures on the wheels and bogies are the most likely cause. It has nothing to do with Polys and Hierarchy this time, because it worked before you re-textured it. Although it wouldn't hurt to check and remove any back and bottom faces that can't be seen in the finished model.Hope that helps......Oh yes! and just as a final note: Once you have your finished model compress the .s file using the ffedit util. You'll find this gives MSTS more room to breathe on the resources as well and can also help with this one.Best Regards,

RE: Trouble Loading Car in World After Retexturing: UID

Sounds to me that one of the multisub object textures was left out of the export...If you have 5 textures, but there are only 4 IDs on the model, then you'll get the error you describe.Somewhat what Fozz said, but the model need not be wiped of textures or remapped. Simply look for the texture that's not going into the sim...If one's no longer used, the "dirty" way of fixing it would be to add a single poly (hidden in the frame) and adding the missing texture's ID (a bit wasteful though). If you still need the texture (and simply forgot it), simply change the ID's for it on the object.Cheers!

RE: Trouble Loading Car in World After Retexturing: UID

>this was not aimed at hack... No you aimed it at me.... The answer here is, that giving someone the WRONG answer to their problem is as bad as them not getting an answer. Because if Tim had listened to that, he'd have spent a very great number of wasted hours doing something that he didn't need to do! and which wouldn't have solved his problem. If Jens had read the initial post properly he would have seen that the model itself already works fine in MSTS. It doesn't need any of the fixes that he came up with and those are NOT the the things that are causing the problems Tim is having.Tim also noted, that he'd seen those answers to other UID20000 errors elswhere in the forum and they didn't help any. I understand everything in your post , and I apologize for the way I said it was not aimed at Hack , I should have been more polite , myself. Perception is all...I also understand what can happen with wrong info, been there bleached the T-shirt.with the understanding that I do NOT plan on getting into a flame war,
while your post was very helpful , the perception (IMHO) was that you were unnecessarily harsh on Jens.
perception is all.....Take Care , Fozzy , I wish you all the best .

Not trying to start anything here, Julian, but I think that post could have been worded a little better, because it comes off as a slam against Jens-Chris. And this forum is no place for those things.Have a nice day.
