May-12-02, 10:00 AM (EDT) "3D designers- -an easy project?" Most recently I've taken a break from reskinning locos/rolling stock and have been working on scenery objects, more specifically tunnel portals. Here is an example of my efforts to better re-create a tunnel for the Clinchfield route:

The CRR tunnels are shorter than those found in MSTS, so a "solution" has been to sink the whole thing into the ground. Unfortunately, that makes the actual portal hole too small, as you can see. I'm wondering if any kind souls out there with a 3D program would be interested in making a new tunnel portal to match those on the CRR (and probably other routes as well). I can provide dimensions. Thanks for considering this!Clayton

May-12-02, 10:03 AM (EDT) 1. "RE: 3D designers- -an easy project?" I can use my Bergen Hill arch as a base(hopefully), so it could be quite easy to just resize the hole. Please post the dimensions here.Enocell Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-12-02, 08:43 PM (EDT) 3. "RE: 3D designers- -an easy project?" From the book "Building the Clinchfield" by James Goforth (and passed along to me by Jerry Sullivan, who happened to have a copy of the book handy), the measurements are as follows:
From the top of the ties to the top of the spring line (i.e. the place where the curvature of the portal hole begins) = 13 feet.
From the tops of the ties to the top of the portal hole arch = 22 feet.
The book says that the width of the tunnel is 18 feet. Here's a shot of what I'm looking for:

This is the south end of Indian Ridge tunnel on the Clinchfield. Here's a jpg of the tga file:Message Areas - "3D designers- -an easy project?" – image 3
The black at the bottom marks approximately how far you have to put jp1tunnelt into the "ground" to get a proper heighth for a CRR tunnel. The black at the top marks the texture of the tunnel's top. The white line represents where the alpha channel begins. In other words, the part that looks like a tunnel represents the area on the tga that maps the tunnel face. Thanks again for all of your help!Clayton Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-13-02, 01:12 AM (EDT) 4. "RE: 3D designers- -an easy project?" Here it is. Tga's don't compress very well, so I avoid them when possible. Let me know where you want me to send it. I won't be able to send it until late tomorrow. (6pm Pacific)Message Areas - "3D designers- -an easy project?" – image 4
