May-07-02, 08:30 PM (EDT) "Rio Grande OY or OM needed!" LAST EDITED ON May-07-02 AT 08:57 PM (EDT)I was think since Fozzy is making a K-36 and some one else is making the Cumbres and Toltec we need a rotary to move all that snow in the Cumbres Pass. "Hint Hint Fozzy."!!!! Thanks, AdamRotary OM.

May-08-02, 10:11 AM (EDT) 2. "RE: Rio Grande OY or OM needed!" Patience grasshopper. ;)We probably should get a narrow gauge route and general revenue cars done before we start worrying about MOW equipment.I know I have a bunch of gen rev cars on my to-do list. I have the 1500 series gons almost done; I’m just awaiting some stuff via snail mail to complete the trucks and weights for the wag files. Then I have 3K series boxes (along with the Cumbres & Toltec conversions), 5500 series stockcars, and the UTLX narrow and frameless tanks. On that note, I'd love to see these at some point. Although I dont think MSTS snows enough to need em Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-08-02, 03:31 PM (EDT) 3. "RE: Rio Grande OY or OM needed!" Ok Fozzy. Heah! Maybe we can find a way to make the flangers raise and lower. I can of got an idea on how to do it. Thanks, Adam Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-08-02, 04:54 PM (EDT) 5. "RE: Rio Grande OY or OM needed!" I was think more along the way of windshield wiper control. TA and Justin have them on there diesels. Maybe we can find a way to change it a little. Thanks, Adam Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

>Adam Can't quite see how we could do that adam given that the wiper has a very specific cycled animation. I could be wrong but I think you'd find the flangers going up and down like a set of wiper blades. LOL Best Regards,

May-08-02, 05:06 PM (EDT) 7. "RE: Rio Grande OY or OM needed!" Just on a side note, would it really matter to raise and lower the blades?I mean I find that in building a car if I start trying to count bolts I end with with two problems. Insainly high polycounts, and me being frustrated as hell about it. And, the fact that when you get it into Train Sim, you cant really see all the detail.Would it really be that necessaray to have the flanger have raised and lowered positions that you can toggle? And I have to wonder about the wiper idea. I dont knon enough about it but is it a global setting or does it only affect the enigne your on. If it only affects the lead locomotive, then your kinda screwed. Now with the rotory plows, the wiper on/off == blade spin up/down might just work. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

>detail. Yes and no! I tend to simplify the shapes and do a hell of a lot of manual optimisation to keep the poly count down. The K-36 is only just under 6000 polys at the moment. As for detail... it's dependant on how high a resolution and bit depth you run MSTS at. I tend to run it quite high and live with lower frame rates.

>up/down might just work. No need! the Rotary can have a proper animation applied to it. That one's not a problem. Just define it as a piece of valve gear and do the animation on it. It'd only work when it moves and you wouldn't be able to turn it off though.Best Regards,

May-09-02, 10:32 AM (EDT) 10. "RE: Rio Grande OY or OM needed!" There's a rotary in the file library that might be close, if you reskinned it, has spinning blade and uses stack effects for the snow plume.. Its not exactly OY or OM, but hey, its not too bad..cheers
Harold

May-10-02, 04:20 AM (EDT) 14. "RE: Rio Grande OY or OM needed!" Although the windshield wiper idea was a good one, I'm forced to point out that wipers only activate on unit 0... aka the player controlled engine. I checked on the TA F7s. On a default ABBA set, only the lead engine's wipers were running. Sorry to report yet another MSTS limitation. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-08-02, 05:35 PM (EDT) 9. "RE: Rio Grande OY or OM needed!" Maybe in time, a route can be copied, and the ground around the track raised to look like deep snow, with textures to match. Instead of running in winter setting, run on a strictly winter copy of the route. It still wouldn't put deep snow on the track, but in areas, just the rail could show, to look as if it was just plowed.Steve Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-09-02, 07:39 PM (EDT) 11. "RE: Rio Grande OY or OM needed!" You could but it just wouldn't be the same. There is no tender to go with it and much more thinks that are missing. Thanks, Adam Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-09-02, 08:53 PM (EDT) 13. "RE: Rio Grande OY or OM needed!" Geez... Thats a little harsh.I mean sure I think we all get tired of hearing people requesting this and that, but I think Fozzy and I have demonstrated some interist in building this.
Fozzy,The only think I have against using a running gear animation is that a rotery would be spun up when it hit heavy snow, but the train wouldn't. And in light snow or where it wasnt needed, it would either be stoped or significantly slowed down. Otherwise the torque the spinning blade creates would rip the plow to bits.Of course, I would be interisted in seening a screw type -- I honstly dont remember the real name, but it appeared in an issues of Narrow Guage and Short Line gazette -- plow being built. Maybe Ill get around to it before some one else does, maybe I wont. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

But there really isn't much choice about that, because MSTS doesn't give us any other hooks to hang that animation on to. This is really the only place it can be put. Unless somebody finds a new on/off switched animation hook I'm afraid that there isn't much choice. It won't work on the wiper blades switch, because it'll rotate backward and forward. Same goes for the pantograph switch... that's a backward and forward with a stop until switched again. The only other animation hook we have is as a piece of valve gear. >Of course, I would be interisted
