May-06-02, 04:34 AM (EDT) "Differences between TSM & TSM Pro?" What are the differences between Train Sim Modeler and Train Sim Modeler Pro (or Commerical) versions beside the Pro version allowing you to import 3DS files? 3D Canvas Pro doesn't work for me. May-06-02, 09:47 AM (EDT) 1. "RE: Differences between TSM & TSM Pro?" Sorry to hear that 3DCanvas Pro doesn't work for you. The other main difference between TSM and TSM Pro besides the import uncrippling that you mention is that you are allowed to sell models that you make with TSM Pro (you are not allowed to sell models made with the regular version of TSM).troub

May-06-02, 12:11 PM (EDT) 2. "RE: Differences between TSM & TSM Pro?" How do you find out if someone is trying to sell 3D models that he created with regular version of TSM or any other programs that have licenses banning sale of work done using those programs? The problem with newer versions of 3D Canvas is that the program automatically moves the pivot points to center of each object in the scene and there is no option to turn it off. Jeffrey. May-06-02, 09:23 PM (EDT) 5. "RE: Differences between TSM & TSM Pro?" Let's say that you want to use 3D Canvas to create a new curved track section. The axis point has to be at one end of the new track section so that you can "snap" the new track section to existing track. The problem with newer versions of 3D Canvas is that when you wish to rotate the new curved track section 15 degrees to the left. The new curved track section should rotate on the axis point placed at one end of the new track section but newer versions of 3D Canvas rotates the new track section using the center point of an invisible box that encloses the new track section. This box becomes visible when you click on the new track section to work on it. Jeffrey. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jeffrey,>The problem with newer versions

>to turn it off.Two things here!First, when you create a new object it does set the pivot point to the centre of the object. But this is perfectly normal behavior. If you want it to be somewhere else you just move it. The pivot point (Axis) has to be set somewhere on the object and the centre is the most sensible place. Otherwise when you rotate or scale it strange things would happen. As for turning that off, why on earth would you want to?? The difference between TSM and TSM Pro as far as I can see, is the ridiculously high price of it. Far more than the Pro version of Canvas which is a much more capable piece of software. On top of that No version of Canvas restricts what you can use it for.Best Regards,

May-06-02, 09:34 PM (EDT) 6. "RE: Differences between TSM & TSM Pro?" Does the regular version also have 'Train Sim Modeler Pro' on the bottom of the screen? I got the regular...but it says 'Pro?'Kurt Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-06-02, 10:46 PM (EDT) 7. "RE: Differences between TSM & TSM Pro?" 3D Canvas has completely adjustable pivot points. During the course of creating a model, I move them all over the place as needed. In fact, I need to use the "center" option to keep myself under control.Message Areas - "Differences between TSM & TSM Pro?" – image 2

May-07-02, 00:32 AM (EDT) 8. "RE: Differences between TSM & TSM Pro?" I think TSM is a good program, especially since I’ve seen the price go down to 24.99 in the store. I have had no 3d modeling experience before using this product and I did get some decent locos made in a short time. It dose have it’s limitations and the exported model isn't as high of quality as compared to 3d Canvas LP or Pro. I find TSM sufficient for getting your feet wet in modeling. What I don’t get is the RIDICULOUS price for TSM Commercial. If the only major differences in the Commercial version are the ability to import other 3d formats, sell your models, and a have bigger file library to use, you are throwing money out the door!! I can’t believe they will sell a product for that much when you can’t even do simple Boolean operations like making a hole through an object. If you want to sell your model, keep pressing on with 3d canvas. ---Joe Hildenbrand---

May-07-02, 09:49 PM (EDT) 9. "RE: Differences between TSM & TSM Pro?" TSM Pro is the regular version that is licensed for making models that can't be sold. File formats available are import of the FSDS (Flight Sim Design Studio)*.fsc format and the TSM *.dst format.TSM Commercial is licensed to allow the author to sell her/his work. File formats available are import of the FSDS *.fsc format and *.3ds. Will save in the TSM *.dst or FSDS *.fsc format. Allows export of a *.bmp image from any of the viewports and will print an image of any viewport.Unless a person is going to start producing models commercially it's overpriced for what you get. It would have been nice to see these features available in the regular TSM. Since TSM is based on the success of FSDS that the flight sim community uses I think the commercial licenseing was drawn from that. I think that was fine when FSDS was really the only application available to make good Flight Sim models. The 3D model format of FS has never, to my knowledge, been made available or been easy to duplicate. Of course we all know that MSTS is a different story.Stew Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
