Apr-25-02, 06:39 PM (EDT) "The SD45 calls it MINI-ME!" Well ok, maybe I should been working on a dash8W and stuff but I got to looking at pictures of one of my favorite locos and thought..."Ahhh what the heck!" So here is my latest model, yet to be textured. I know SP only had 4 and people won't particularly care for this but I WANTED A GP40X! Anyone know what other roads used them? And if anyone has the physics for this bad boy done please let me know....So here ya go SP freaks!

The SP, UP, ATSF, and NS had them. Excellent model. if I ever learn how to re skin that would be even better. It'll require a little remodeling on the other roads but no biggie. I gotta start painting it.. paint fumes make me dizzy... Apr-26-02, 11:41 AM (EDT) 15. "RE: The SD45 calls it MINI-ME!" Right! The NS (not Nederlander Spoorwegen ) inherited their group of GP40Xs (6?) from Southern. I believe that they were delivered in the "tuxedo" scheme and rode on standard Blomberg trucks.I'm also pretty sure that they were delivered with the high short hood, but I'm not 100% certain. There were 3 of them (7000 - 7002) and yes, they were delivered with the high short hood. I found a few shots in NS paint on the web. It looks like Conrail picked some from E-L,P.C.and RDG???.
The roster shows the Conrail numbers specific to who they got the units from...

keep up the good workAccording to Trains Magazine JAN2002- the UP sold 2 of it's GP40X's in an auction. They were 5504 & 5505Other units to go in the auctions were SD50's 5022, 5033, 5043 and 5049

I noticed that the SP had "drapes" on the back side of the engine. Hmmm maybe you should make two versions? Your model does look great!! very well done on the "SP" details. I knew it was a SP model from the second I saw it.

Side note:
I think a lot people don't like UP but I still take photo's of their trains. UP did have the "mini-me" GP40X. They are getting phased out (if I remember correctly). UP has been getting rid of their "odd-ball" locomotives that they've inherited from other railroads. So you model is a tribute to the odd-balls out there. Keep up the great work!!Nick

Yes they did have the drapes on it at one time, but SP eventualy decided they weren't worth it cause people kept hitting their heads on them. When me and Danny saw our first on in person was at the hump yard at Colton many years ago, and that was back without that ugly drape. Danny also kitbashed one for our HO models as well which was also an impressive job. But since I hate UP more than he does I will have to talk him out of making it our I will slap him silly.

Expect this in SF traditioanl and kodachrome paints. I have to remodel it a bit for SF and other roads because of the different sideframes and such. I just love this engine! Painting is underway! I'll try to post some shots as I get closer to getting it road worthy. Which I am going to try on my own... but that may only slow the release... I like modeling and painting these, that techy stuff escapes me... But anyway, I just need some actual pics of other roads. So post 'em if ya got 'em! Next in line is a snoot nose sd40T-2... already 75% modeled...
Sorry if all my locos are a little SP SF biased...what can I say..?=|Goldenpig out!
PS: A SF version of the B39-8 is already textured and will be accompanied with a BNSF version as well... so be on the lookout folks!

"RE: The SD45 calls it MINI-ME!" it looks similar but is different than a GP40P...but..considering availability to models..its the darn closest thing! aka...ill take it...unless you are willing to modify it into a CNJ GP40P...though...if i didnt know any better...it does look right for a NJT GP40PH...so that, plus those new comet cars on the horizon (no pun intended) is looking good!
