Apr-23-02, 11:59 AM (EDT) "Cabeese" I'm in need of some assistance. I've been working steadily on reskinning Clinchfield diesels and am now switching over to some rolling stock. I'm wanting to do some skins of CRR cabeese, but I'm stuck. While digging around in my CRR references, I've learned that the CRR had several types of cabooses- -M5s, FC-7s, FC-8s, and "ATSF style." The major problem I have is that (unfortunately) I don't know anything about cabeese, so the designations above don't mean anything to me. I know folks have been doing EXCELLENT work on cabooses recently, so I've got two questions regarding 3D caboose models:
1)Have the types of cabeese mentioned above already been modelled but perhaps are known by different names?
2)Are there models already out there that can be used as close representations of the models mentioned above? If not, would someone be interested in creating 3D models of those types of cabeese?
Here's a link that has some pics of CC&O/CRR cabs:

Apr-23-02, 06:06 PM (EDT) 1. "RE: Cabeese" I am not familiar with the model designations of CRR cabooses, but one book I have shows #1029 to be a "Northeastern" style and #1090 to be a "Wide Vision" type car.Larry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-23-02, 10:15 PM (EDT) 2. "RE: Cabeese" Clayton, I have some refrence materials on CRR cabeese. The CRR had seven of the Santa Fe style cabooses, and there is an excellent model in the file section here that I've been meaning to repaint for the last 8 months. As for the other classes, it depends mostly on how exact you want to be, and what era you consider to be the CRR. The wood sided FC-3 class look similar to the northeastern style, but on the rebuilt (steel) ones the coupola sides are straight, and the roof has less of an arc. The FC-8 class is the wide vision caboose, they only had 3 and all were delivered in the family lines orange in 1974. There is a wide vision caboose in the file library. The M-5's were built by the ACL and were handed down to the CRR in 1976, all delivered in Family Lines Scheme.-Chris Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-23-02, 11:05 PM (EDT) 3. "RE: Cabeese" Hey, guys, thanks! I've got a picture of 1092 in FL/CRR red paint that looks like a wide vision cab, but I may have my terms wrong. There IS a cab in the download section that looks like it might match other CRR red cabs (ohrr_cab.zip is the file name of the one I'm thinking of). I thought I'd download it and maybe just work with those two. Are you planning on painting that cab Chris? I'm on a CRR tear, man, so watch out or I'll drip paint all over you! Seriously, if you're going to paint it I'll move on to something else. If not, I'll end up doing it probably. Right now I'm in the early 70s with my CRR models- -after they got the black SD40s. Thanks again!ClaytonBTW- -4 CRR coal hoppers uploaded tonight! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-24-02, 00:23 AM (EDT) 4. "RE: Cabeese" Clayton,Here's a shot by Don Boone of a Clinch rear-cupola cab from George Elwood's Fallen Flags site:
Look for cpcab1.zip in the file library (was uploaded on Monday). This looks like a close match, except for the smokestack position.Chris Denbow - Baltimore, Md.

Apr-25-02, 02:59 PM (EDT) 6. "RE: Cabeese" Clayton, paint away on that caboose! My spare time seems to have dwindled to near nothing... The 1092 is indeed a "wide vision" caboose. I would judge it to be very close to the model that resides in the files section here. These cabeese (Clinchfield had 1090-1092) were not built by International, but were converted from boxcars by ACL in their Waycross shops. They were classified as M-8 by SCL and FC-8 by the CRR. They were delivered to the CRR in the orange scheme in 1974, but a few years later they were painted red with white lettering by the CRR.Here is a pic of an offset coupola CRR caboose. This one is similar, but not exactly like the rest that the CRR owned. The original 7 (1061-1067) were built by ACF in 1942, but this one was built by Thrall in 1952. The CRR got this "1064" from the L&N, beacuse the L&N accidently burned up the original 1064. This was taken at the Southeastern Railroad Museum near Atlanta.
