>locomotive? LOL Not exactly Euston, everybody knew about it. the secret thing comes from the behaviour of the LNER press office, and that was quite intentional. If you want someone to get interested in something only leak a little bit of information! the press then get very hungry for more (Old Trick!) It used a very complex Jarrow Marine boiler... It's a water tube boiler, so it works the opposite way to a normal boiler. The water is in the tubes and the fire is flued around them...They only built one because it wasn't very successful. The main problem was a huge level of maintenance on the boiler itself.. The other problem it had was that although the boiler could produce vast pressure it couldn't actually maintain a constant steam production rate. The test figures really are quite interesting.... When you plot even a simple graph from them you see how the steam production starts to fall at an exponential rate as the usage increases. It was an attempt to improve efficiency by only heating the water you actually need rather than keeping the heat in a large water mass... Unfortunately it just didn't work.Best Regards,

Apr-20-02, 03:03 AM (EST) 5. ""Hush-Hush" Engine" Apart from the London, Brighton & South Coast "Rememberence" class tanks, this was the only 4-6-4 engines in the U.K.

Why not make the post-rebuild version of # 10000?
Just use a stretched A4 Boiler over the 4-6-4 wheels.BigDave, The LNER fiend. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-20-02, 07:10 AM (EST) 7. "RE: "Hush-Hush" Engine" I remember reading somewhere that there was a slight difference in option about the wheel config as the trailing wheels were not a set the first trailing wheel was sprung in the frame and the second where part of the pony truck so some consider her a 4-6-2-2.Just a bit of info I read.Peter Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
