Apr-05-02, 03:59 PM (EST) "Overcoming MSTS Wheel Limitations" Hi Folks,I just wanted to query you folks who have designed locomotives with more than nine pairs of wheels. How did you overcome this "limitation" in MSTS? There's a few designs that I'm looking at, and some of them have wheels that exceed the "WHEELS33" standard set by MSTS (For those that don't understand "WHEELS33" it means the third set of wheels on the third bogie).Which brings up another question - when designing a locomotive such as a 4-4-0, would the wheels fall into this hierarchy:BOGIE1
-WHEELS11
-WHEELS12
-WHEELS13
-WHEELS21BOGIE2
-WHEELS22
-WHEELS23
-WHEELS31
-WHEELS32I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before, but I can't find any messages pertaining to it.Thanks,Brian. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Overcoming MSTS Wheel Limitations" A 4-4-0 steam loco = oo-OO, assuming this is what you mean, four wheels on leading bogie, four drivers, nil trailing bogie?Wheels11, wheels12, wheels01, wheels02.Wheel sets are attached (that's left and right wheels on a single axle.Front boge two sets, drivers two sets. This must be an real oldtimer? Thanks, I never put two and two together and realised the first figure of the wheel numbers referred to the bogie order! LoL, you learn some new every day.

4 leading wheels.. (ie Bogie Number 1 Wheelset 1 and Wheelset 2)
wheels 11
wheels 128 Driving Wheels.. (4 X Sets of 2)
wheels 01
wheels 02
wheels 03
wheels 042 trailing wheels (ie Bogie Number 2 Wheelset 1)
wheels 21
You should be able to work out other configurations for your self from that info Brian.Best Regards,

Apr-12-02, 05:48 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Overcoming MSTS Wheel Limitations" Just a histerical note please: the original Mountain Class locomotives were 'invented' by New Zealand Government Railways, the mighty 'X' of 1908, for use on the 'mountainous' mid North Island section of the NI Main Trunk. Likewise, NZ had the first Pacific class (Q) of locomotives. The operative word here, is CLASS. That's how the class name 'Pacific' came about, because they crossed* the Pacific Ocean from the famous US firm Baldwins, in 1901. *For the pedantic train buffs: they came by ship of course Nah, nah, na, nah, nahhhhhh!Don't let the computer WIN!
