Apr-03-02, 11:56 AM (EST) "K-36 Steam Update! Screenshot & Details" K-36 Narrow Gauge Progress Update! Things are going well on this project. 99% of the worst problems are now solved and most of the detail is now in place. Still a few odds and ends to do and tidy up. The Valve gear animation that was causing so many nightmares now works fine Properly quartered wheels and gear. The loco is running well in the sim with no frame rate drops. Poly count is still hovering on the 6000 mark even with the additional details due to five days spent heavily optimising all the components and culling back faces.Texturing is now in progress although I don't expect to be well on with that until next week. Then there's the tender to do (including the doghouse).Message Areas - "K-36 Steam Update! Screenshot & Details" – image 1Any questions, suggestions, or comments... yell em up! I'm listening... although be aware I won't be able to answer any questions between Friday and Monday as I'm away for the weekend.Best Regards,
Julian (Fozzy The Bear)

They didn't fit the big roof vent covers till the 1950's as far as I can make out from photographs... If anybody has information on a date for that please let me know, then I can match up the roof vent types with the liveries!!Best Regards,

I do read engineering drawings, and that also makes getting it to work properly easier. I'm really looking forward to getting this project completed. I've had all the usual nightmares with it. It does indeed look wonderful when all the valve gear is moving. There's something quite magical abut the way locomotives with outside cranks look while they're working. I'm going as fast as I can on it, but I'm determined not to compromise the finished result by rushing it out. Best Regards,
Julian (Fozzy The Bear)

Apr-04-02, 11:20 AM (EST) 10. "RE: K-36 Steam Update! Screenshot & Details" Julian, I agree with you 100% " Not to compromise " by rushing it.
It is such a pitty that no-one has resolved the " Sound " for the Steamers yet?
Things like: Closing the Regulator..the chuffing sound from the exhaust stack, should stop and only the wheel sound running over the track joints should be heard. The chuffing sounds more realisticly synchronised with wheel rotation.
I'm not in the least complaining, only stating that it will be GREAT. ( Like your Loco Julian )

Apr-04-02, 06:05 PM (EST) 12. "RE: K-36 Steam Update! Screenshot & Details" It is great how Locos with outside frames work. It's almost Hyponitic watching them go, good thing my dad was driving that time otherwize there would have been one huge wreck with our truck hitting that Cadaliac.

>Im confused! So am I! The original works drawings dated 1926 for the K-37 shows the tool box in place. Yet that same side toolbox doesn't appear in any of the photographs I can see, until post WWII.The mystery deepens!! :-S I think we're going to have to rely on photographs which have a known date for each locomotive that gets modelled.Best Regards,
Julian (Fozzy The Bear)... See you after the weekend!!

I think our language needs new descriptive adjectives since we've used them all up. "Holy Chit!" (WITH the exclamation) is my submission to the language police for inclusion in all new dictionaries.

Apr-07-02, 00:42 AM (EST) 17. "RE: K-36 Steam Update! Screenshot & Details" Thanks for the compliments guys! I'm not an artist.. I'm an engineer. I find the by sticking to the design drawings for the real thing as rigidly as you can, what falls out of the other end tends to look prety much like the real machine (with a few MSTS compromises)......I could do with a bit more feedback on this toolbox question if anybody has any ideas??Best Regards,
Julian (Fozzy The Bear)

>some more prototypical stuff. There are some Durango And Silverton Coach repaints in the file library. You might want to take a look at those! Grizzly Bear did em. Other than that, I'll be doing some D&RGW rolling stock, passenger and freight, as soon as I can track down enough information to get started on it. A few good photographs and better still some good drawings and I should be able to crank those out quite fast.

I'm convinced that 80% of The Bachman Stock is actually D&RGW stock with all sorts of non NG road names on it. I'm going to check this a bit futher but if it is, it'll present a really good source of model reference.
