Apr-02-02, 03:29 PM (EST) "Whew! Database is complete!" Hi Folks!I'm happy to announce that I have completed the database portion of my MSTS model site! Its up to date with all of the "big" MSTS model producers, and has a little over 1200 records in it!As usual, you will find the site at: http://www.freecfm.com/v/v1perfan/A few notes:1) There are a few minor data adjustments that still need to be made. They will be done soon!2) I should have the "auto-submission" portion finished by the end of the week. Anyone who produces a new locomotive is welcome to add it to the database. However, it won't be seen until I approve the record (this is to prevent people from clogging the database with crap).3) The steam and electric categories are missing some key information, such as manufacturers and railroads which use the locomotives built by the authors. If someone feels up to it, I'd love it if someone could fill me in on some of the details. As usual, please let me know if there are any errors (website and data), or if there are any other features you would like to see.Now off to find a beer or two. Dammit, I just noticed that the server is doing the "up agin, down again" crap.I'm going to look into moving it to a more permanent server. In the meantime, please be patient.Thanks,Brian. Apr-02-02, 04:29 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Whew! Database is complete!" This looks like a truly excellent resource, and a great site design to go with it! The only suggestion I have, though, is to qualify your titles by specifiying "Welcome to Brian's Online MSTS Locomotive Model Database". Just to avoid confusion, I guess, because the database only consists of locomotives. Unless, of course, you have plans to add everything else (which I am in no way suggesting, locomotives are more than enough for one person to keep up with!).troub

Apr-02-02, 09:01 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Whew! Database is complete!" You have the author of the SP B39-8 as Tim Kent.. that was in fact modeled and painted into sp by Danny Beck.. Maybe I am overlooking something here though. Besides that it is one of the more useful sites up dedicated to sim RRing. SP Redwing Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-04-02, 03:18 AM (EST) 10. "RE: Whew! Database is complete!" Hi Brian!Hope you don't get me wrong, I realy like your Database. But i am a bit unhappy with the "road" section.
Couldn't you split it into Country and Company?
I first looked for the wrong DB when searching for "Deutsche Bundesbahn".
The problem seems to be the association of the companies.
Here some tips for europe:
-The ICE is not a own company, it belongs to "Deutsche Bahn AG"( well, some trains run for NS).
-"SBB" = "Schweitzer Bundesbahn" (swiss).
-"BLS" and "RhB" are a private swiss companys
-for Germany:
befor WW2 : Deutsche Reichsbahn Gesellschaft (DRG)
former West : Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB)
former East : Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR)
after privatisation (today) : Deutsche Bahn AG (DB)
-"Ferrovie del Stato" = "FS" and Trenitaliana(own company?) are Italian
-"Nederlanse Spoorwegen" (NS) is Dutch
-NSB Norwegian
-RENFE Spain = "spanish state railway"
-SJ, SJ/MTAB Sweden = "statens järnvägan"
-SNCB Belgian
-SNCF French
-Thalys is operetoed jointly by DB SNCF SNCBI don't know much about British companys sorry. What about categorys for steam, diesel ...? Michael Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-04-02, 02:59 PM (EST) 11. "RE: Whew! Database is complete!" Thanks for the info.As for splitting up the records into countries, its not a feasible thing to do right now - I'd have to look at each record individually and determine the country from which it came. Since my track record is less than acceptable with regards to the electric and steam sections (especially with European models), I can't see any reason to throw the records into further chaos. Not only that, it wouldn't sync up with Nels' site anymore either (which is where the bulk of the information is obtained). I'm happy right now with the few groups in which the locomotives are in now. It makes them manageable, more so than having to worry about two other possible fields.Brian.
