Mar-06-02, 11:22 PM (EST) "Attn: Illinois Central, Norfolk Southern, and Conrail Fans!!!" Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what my new project is ?

The IC and NS versions are fairly similar, but I will do a separate Conrail version since they had air conditioners on top of the cab.Obviously, this a very preliminary screenshot, taken after about 10 minutes of actual work. But, you should get the idea.There's more than enough info here: any guesses?troub

It's a standard cab SD70--a major force for modern Illinois Central fans (I don't know much about how important it is for Conrail and NS fans, although some Conrail fans seem to hate it because its acquisition had something to do with Conrail getting bought...). I don't know if EMD even wants to admit these exist (they're not even mentioned on the website), because of their lack of the modern amenities and safety features of the widenose SD70M, or other SD70 versions with the safety cab. As I understand it, these were pretty much special-order bargain priced units. . .a lot of horsepower (4000?) for cheap (who cares if it's just a little "less safe" than the more expensive ones ).troub

I could, but it might be awhile. . .my first priority is IC, and I've never done an NS repaint before, so I don't have the logos, etc. What I'm thinking of doing is releasing the complete skinned IC version, and offering the models with skinning templates to repainters who typically do Conrail and NS repaints, since I wouldn't want to release anything "substandard," which would probably happen if I did skins for road with which I'm rather unfamiliar.So, if anyone out there does NS or Conrail skins, send me an email and I'll pick maybe two or three interested skinners. That's all I need, so if you email me and I say I've already picked someone, please don't be offended. . .they will be released publicly for anyone to reskin, but since they'll be slightly different models for each road, I need a skin just to release the model with. . .so I'll just need a couple of people to do those skins pre-release.troub

Well, I just started on it, and it is a "side project" to my adding scenery to the IC route in southern Illinois, so I'm not sure at this point how long I should expect it to take. It'll be a little while, though, because I want it to be right. I might even have one or two new sounds for it, too (at least for the IC version. I don't know if Conrail and/or NS would use the same kind of horns, etc.)troub

I love Conrail and am starting to like NS since it's taken over the mainline through my hometown. So...I love the SD70! It's a much needed locomotive.
