Mar-06-02, 06:01 PM (EST) "Transparent Window Woes" Hi Folks,I'm still fighting with this darn transparent window thing. Here's the situation:I've created an interior and exterior object for my model in TSM, which are named INTERIOR and EXTERIOR. For the exterior cab, I have all of the faces pointing outward with the material set to alphanorm+. For the interior, I have all of the faces pointing inward with them set to alphanorm-.Here's my maps I use for the exterior and interior textures:
The light grey on the first (exterior) map are already alpha-channeled. The second (interior) map (mint green) does not have any alpha channels. Now when I look at it in MSTS, here's the result:
As you can see, when you look at the loco from the front, the back half of it disappears! What am I doing wrong??Thanks,Brian.

As you can see in the cab, the back wall is mimicing the front wall's texture (window-wise). The material used on the hood is solidnorm.Brian. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-07-02, 07:39 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Transparent Window Woes" SUCCESS!Thanks to John, I was able to figure out what the problem was!I didn't realize that when you flip the faces that it uses the opposite face's texture mapping. For example, the cab's back face, when flipped is actually the front of the cab's face. So I just remapped the back face to be the front and vice-versa.Now its off to the ENG wizards, and we'll be done!Brian. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-08-02, 10:10 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Transparent Window Woes" John, maybe you could write a short tutorial on this and provide an example. It wouldn't have to be the whole loco, just the cab section. I'm having the same problem Brian had, but I not sure what he was saying when he wrote up his "success". From the inside of my cab looking out (open back end on a steam loco) everything appears fine, but from the outside looking in, whole sections disappear as I rotate around the train. I've used one block to represent each wall, and textured the outer and inner polygons with the same image. I was wondering if I should create an inner wall and delete the non visible polygons between the two walls. This is my first attempt at a loco and I wanted the transparent windows. I'm using PSP7 and TSM. I'm still not clear on alpha norm -, + etc. after reading the tsm manual. I'd bet I'm not the only one, and I think everyone could benefit from your wisdom.Dave Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

i think this is a big problem :only the msts locos do not have this problem. as it is written in the TechDocs it must be wrong. because it is impossible to create locos witch have transparent windows throught which you can see everything!Or Am i wrong ?Was anybody out there able to make "fine" transparent windows ? Mar-08-02, 01:31 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Transparent Window Woes" I haven't read the tech docs in so long i do not remember exactly what they say, but if i'm understanding right, it is very possible to create locos with transparent or translucent windows that see everything. Just gotta play with the translucency priorities until you find a combination that works.------ BUZZ ------
