Mar-03-02, 03:23 PM (EST) "TSM V1.1 Errors" After updating TSM with the 1,1 patch, I cannot open the help files. A box pops up saying
"Hh has caused an error in ITSS.DLL. Hh will now close If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer."
I restarted my computer to no avail. Anybody else experience this? Man I have more problems with this program.
I think it is worth the extra time and money to learn 3DCanvas Pro. TSM is not easy as it is billed, it is not for beginners like Abacus says. Unless TSM comes out with better support, help files (THAT WORK), and better tutorials for advanced use, this program is only good for making simple scenery objects. Save your money and learn 3D Canvas, it is a real 3D program with real support and tutorials that show you how to build something that is usefull. I noticed TSM's 1.1 modified conversion program now looks a lot like 3d Canvas's....hmmmm. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

The first thing I would check is that the .chm file is in the same folder as the TSM application. Also, try double clicking the .tsm file from explorer and see if you get the same error. All TSM does when you select help is to launch the TSMhelp.chm file.>I noticed TSM's

I have both TSM and 3DCanvas. the screens are totally different,
the info is simular but thats to be expected..
TSM is by far easier to use.. Id like to suggest that a Library of basic textures be made avalable for those who need help in that area.. 3D canvas has those avalable patm41

Mar-05-02, 00:40 AM (EST) 15. "RE: TSM V1.1 Errors" LAST EDITED ON Mar-05-02 AT 01:36 AM (EST)Mr. Sinclair,
First, I'll say I'm glad to see that you are reading and replying on this and other message boards dealing with TSM. It says a lot about your charachter and decication to your work.
And, the Hh is a file under the C>windows>system folder. It is a HTML executable help source file. The Hh files are required in windows to run any help file in HTML format. ITSS.DLL means: Info Tech Storage System. Direct Link Library, it is also a windows sytem applications file that is used to run the HTML help programs correctly(One of its many Jobs). The TSMhelp.chm dose not just launch from the TSM folder. It has to use the source Hh file and ITSS.DLL to work correctly. Go to C:>Windows>systems, and find the Hh file and move it to the desktop, then open the (or any HTML) help file, see what happens. Do the same with the ITSS.DLL. For some reason the V1.1 that I downloaded and installed, causes a compatability problem with the Hh files, which in turn use the ITS.DLL.
I uninstalled TSM and installed only V1.0. Installed the help files (from 1/02), worked, no problem. Installed TSM V1.1, Problem, same dialog box I mentioned before shows up. I ran Disk doctor, Windows doctor, and spent hours looking over the registry. Everything checks Ok. The root of the problem is not my system, OR THE OPERATOR, but the TSMs help files. Every other help file I have that is in HTML format works but TSMs V1.1. I have helped develope computer progams for years - from planning and structuring logic to doing the basic coding. From the responses so far on this site, I gather that this is one of those one in a few thousand conflicts which means, the program may work for the majority, but there is always a few that do not work right and are not compatible. What's throwing me off in the debugging process is that the V 1.0 and the updated help files from 1/02 work just fine, it's when I install V1.1. To be a system or OPERATOR problem, V 1.0's help file should not work either. I will download the Patch again and reinstall it and get back with you. Mar-05-02, 02:46 AM (EST) 16. "RE: TSM V1.1 Errors" Hi,To give some addition. To me it seems the notorious MS version incompatibility too.The TSM 1.1 Help runs fine on my PC with WindowsME.
My HH.exe is from 06-08-2000, version 4.74.8875.0, HH1.32
My Itss.dll is from 04-08-1999, version 4.72.8085.0Have you tried downloading the lastest version of the HTML workshop and see if this will help?Other question for the developer of the TSM help chm file; what tool have you used for compiling the .chm file? And can this tool cause any incompatibilities?Other trick that may work. If you don't have it already, download the HTML workshop from MS and decompile the TSM chm file. Now compile it with the HTML Workshop and see if it works this way.

Mar-05-02, 08:11 AM (EST) 17. "RE: TSM V1.1 Errors" I have the same version of files that you have, I am also running ME (I didn't like in that much at first, it came with the computer, I was for a while seriously considering donwgrading back to 98, but I never really had any big problems with ME, so I stayed with it). I downloaded the V 1.1 patch from Abacus's web site. I waited to to do this last because I'm still using dial-up, where I live, dose not provide any high speed services yet. Since I use the computer endlessly and have to download / upload so fequently, I'm actually moving for this reason. Anyway, back to the problem. After downloading, I reinstalled, didn't work again. I downloaded the patch again, reinstalled, and well THREE TIMES A CHARM. The help file worked! SO, I have to say that I don't think it was the intitial patches source file. The patch must have been corrupted during the download or didn't fully download properly. Oddly, I never had this problem from downloading files, although I heard this can be as common as a cold, especialy using dialup. The other problems I have been experiencing with TSM is because when I get a new program, I stretch it to the MAX. I think I ran into just about every error you can run into and halfway figured it out. I will say that now that I can open the updated help file, I'm glad to see the updated information. Well, I need to run and eat some breakfast, the crow's ready! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-05-02, 09:04 AM (EST) 19. "RE: TSM V1.1 Errors" I used 3D Canvas for sometime (Think it was version 4) and I think its a bit of swings and roundabouts. I loved the 3D Canvas object subtract feature, but mostly I think you can live without it (Although it would be useful to have sometimes), but I just 200% love the template system. For building non box shaped trains it saves just so much time. It used to take forever to get the shape right with Canvas, (and it was never symetrical).
While its only a simple thing, the ability to create the files direct into the route is useful.
I'm not sure what else has been added with the latest canvas build, but the idea of building the eng file in it, and positioning lights sounds a great idea.
But I have not had a chance to see whats improved with TSM1.1.Overall I'm more than satisfied with my purchase of TSM. ( Just keep improving it ) Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-05-02, 08:11 PM (EST) 20. "RE: TSM V1.1 Errors" With TSM 1.1 you can build light parts and lights will appear at those locations, and you can add exhaust parts and the smoke will appear there. Very neat! TSM also builds an eng or wag file, based on a template. You can then edit it for your own loco - much easier than starting from scratch.Basically, TSM 1.1 lets you build a loco or car, compile it into an .s file, and go run it - everything will be there - cab, sound, eng file, etc. Now you will have to go in and edit the eng file for things like HP and such, but most of the work will be done for you.The key to this is setting up the Project Properties box before you compile - this tells TSM where to find everything.Hope this helps,

Mar-06-02, 08:55 AM (EST) 21. "RE: TSM V1.1 Errors" Just downloaded and installed 1.1 yesterday. running at 1.7gHz under windows xp. Got the exact same problems people are talking about here. This seems to be more than just an isolated case. First off I couldn't access tha help files. Keep getting an error and xp shuts it down. I also tried to compile my latest creation--needless to say, I had fits over the complexity of the new input screen. Without the help screen for some guidance, I had to muddle my way through. The first time through I lost my links to my cab and sound folders as it rewrote my .eng file. After starting over--rewriting a new .eng file. I recompiled the model and got it into msts. Just as some others noted--my animation was gone. I noticed in project properties the animation box had a "1" in it and said animation frame would be one less than that number. Now my questions--do I need to re-download and reinstall multiple times till help works, and should I change the animation frame to "2". Louis, if you're out there, please help. As a longtime fsds user, I like tsm as I have gotten quick and usuable results with it.Dave Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-06-02, 01:26 PM (EST) 22. "RE: TSM V1.1 Errors" Hey Dave,

I spent hours trying to get the help file to work. The only solution that I ran into was to redownload the V1.1 and reinstall ( I have a 1.7Ghz processor also, maby ther're picky LOL). If your help file (or any other HTML h file) worked correctly before, it has to be the version you downloaded. After geting my help file to work correctly, I was able to read the updated help file that explained animation. It is more indepth. When converting a revised model in V1.1 that was initialy conveted in V1.0, I think you have to whatch out. To me it seemed safe when convrting the new model to just convert it into a new file. If I had a wagon named bigbox, that was converted privoiusly in V1.0, made revisions, and wanted to convert it in V1.1, I would make a new file like bigbox2 and use it. After I got evrything running smoothly, I would clean up the files. I did so much stuff with MSTS and made so many many many numorous errors, I found that the best solution was to backup the good files I wanted, uninstall MSTS, and reinstall. This actually saved time instead of going to each individual folder and deleting all the junk that I had cluttered (There must of been at least 1200 files).I like that MSTS gives the ability to creat actvities, routs, and objects. I think I actually stopped playing the game a month after I got it (Which was about a day after it was released). I spend hourz just making things with different programs.
