Mar-02-02, 10:52 AM (EST) "Can't get project to show in Consist Editor " In Train Sim Modeler, I designed a new a new freight car, including confirming hierarchy, all polygons covered, etc., and then creating new TS object file, which gives a correct report. I cannot get MSTS editor to show the preview image when creating a consist. I find the car listed in the Consist Editor but when I click on it, which creates a thumbnail picture, to move it down into the blue window where the consist is built, I do not get a preview image to grab and drag. There are no duplicate files with same name. I am at my wit's end (not that I have so many wits to expend) and direly need help!Any ideas? I am open to any suggestions, via public or private.Bill Cline

If I remember right it's somewhere around 6000 polys. I'm sure someone who is still up to speed on TS could tell you for sure. Try removing some detail and see if you can it to show up.Best,Roger Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-02-02, 11:44 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Can't get project to show in Consist Editor " Bill,
Make sure to check your car's folder in "trainset" to see if there is a "wagon" file.....you have to add this yourself, usually by copying one from another SIMILAR car and using "save as" to rename it into your car's folder.
At this point you should have an:
.wag
.sd
.s
.ace ( 1 or more )
Then you have the joy of reentering the bounding box parameters and don't forget the FRED........
Hope this helps

Mar-03-02, 09:28 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Can't get project to show in Consist Editor " Jake-Roger,Thanks for the response! As for the .wag file, yes I do have it. But, what is "FRED"?Roger, you may have hit on the problem. Before conversion I have a polygon count of 5216...after conversion, 7588. If that is it, I will bless you in my prayers tonight. Many thanks.Bill Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-03-02, 10:40 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Can't get project to show in Consist Editor " Bill,
Sorry for the acronym - FRED = "Flashing Rear End Device" - the red light that basically sits on the rear coupler when your car is the last one in a consist. Some modelers use a stock boxcar .wag file on a flatcar and when their car is the last one you see the FRED flashing in space above the car deck. With TSM and the ruler (F12), it's a snap to locate the coordinates for your FRED and enter them into the .wag file.

Mar-03-02, 10:54 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Can't get project to show in Consist Editor " Hello Bill,Not a problem Bill, that's the best part of this whole mess, helping each other. For more specific help with TSM, you'll have to find someone who has been working with the program. I use Max primarily, I do have the other two but have had no time to model yet alone learn these other programs. Bummer......But anyway good luck with you model.Roger

Mar-03-02, 04:02 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Can't get project to show in Consist Editor " Bill,One other thought. If your .ace filename has more than 8 letters, it ain't gonna work. Under "Edit", the last item in the drop down menu is "convert filename". Hit "browse", and see if the names are legal. If not, you might have to redo the textures after you change the filename to 8 or less letters.......
I'm running out of ideas here, but if you'd like to, zip your .dst file to me and I'll see what I can do to help.

Mar-04-02, 10:07 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Can't get project to show in Consist Editor " It appears Roger's suggestion re poly count did the trick. Here's a tip for others: when creating objects made from tube material, be very, very careful to set the points/section and sections to a reasonable figure. Making four grabirons with the default points/sections of 16 & 8 *really* sends the poly count skyhigh! After removing all the grabirons and re-doing them with four points/section, my poly count dropped from 7588 down to 2726 and my car showed up just fine in MSTS editor. Thanks again, Roger! Only one problem remains...the dam wheels won't turn! I have set and reset hierarchy and it continues to view with the apex of the parent pointing down to the original index point. Shouldn't it point in an upwards "^" to the parent, the main body of the car instead of downwards "V" to the intersection of the two index lines? One thing after another with this program, but I'm learning...Bill Cline Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
