Feb-28-02, 12:51 PM (EST) "I give up..." I cannot succeed in converting my model with conv3ds, it says: unexpected error occured. I was working on this:The model is now 99% completed but there is no way i can convert it it's a shame. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-08-02, 04:18 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Continued" Hi mumia, during my first modeling efforts I have run into lots of
errors with Conv3ds, but I nerver gave up trying to get the
models to work. I have found several different things that
cause an unexpected error:(I might have to add that I use 3dsmax4 for modeling, so
some explanations refer to that program).1. You have edited your model in vertex mode and deleted some
vertices or faces. Now some isolated vertices remain. Select
your entire model, go to edit mesh mode and select "remove
isolated vertices" (or something like that). 2. Your model consists, although the linking to the parent
node is always correct, of 100 separate pieces or more.
That does definitely not work. I had to reduce the number
of subobjects that make the loco model to a number below 100.
(See File->Summary Info in 3dsmax for the number of subobjects)3. It's a textureing problem. Never select more than one
subobject at once to apply a texture map to it. If you
have selected MULTIPLE subobjects AT ONCE and then applied a
material and a texture mapping to the selection, that might
cause the error. (If you did it that way and look at
one subobject of that multiple selection, the items on the
(3ds) modifier stack that concern textureing will be in
italic. Select each of the affected subobjects separately,
remove all mappings, and remap every subobject for itself.4. It's an import problem. I sometimes wanted to use parts
of one model for another one. Therefore, I exported them
from the original MAX file to a 3ds file and re-imported them
into the other model's MAX file. It all looked okay in 3dsmax,
but the model wouldn't compile. Delete the imported parts and
use the File->Merge function instead, to import parts from
another file.
(It took me quite some time to figure this one out)(5. Maybe your model simply has far too many vertices/faces,
but I guess that you've paid attention to that. I conducted
some tests that led to the result that the faces maximum
is somewhere around 15.000, but maybe that depends on your
machine.)These are all the mistakes I know that cause an unexpected
error in Conv3ds. I hope that these hints will help you,
even if you don't use 3dsmax.PvF
