Feb-21-02, 08:31 AM (EST) "Container loader" I don't know what their "official" name is, but would anyone be interested in designing one of those machines that loads containers and trailers onto flat or well cars? I don't have a picture of one, but I can get some if you need them. I'm talking about the smaller ones, that are kind of like big fork-lifts, only with 4 arms that come down to pick up the trailer/container. Any takers? Thanks. Feb-22-02, 02:04 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Container loader" Hi Eric,Not quite correct, at least not in Europe Asia or Japan.
Container cranes come in three types :
A: those that load ships, called Portainer and run on rails set in the quay face.
B: those that load lorries from the stack, called Transtainers and run on rubber wheels, commonly called RTG's or Rubber Tyred Gantry crane.
C: those that load at rail heads, called RMGs or Rail Mounted Gantry crane.Of course there are others like Foklifts usually used in empty parks and Straddles used in high flow parks.Where l work we have 22 Portainers with the last two the biggest in the world, to date ( but soon to be suppased by others at ECT ), 84 RTG,s and 6 RMG's. My job entails engineering work on all and l have detail photos and some drawings for most of the above, if anybodys interested l'll post some scanned images to break it down to sub types so somebody can pick one.RegardsMichael Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I would be interested in any drawing that you have if you don't mind sending them. My email is s_mckenzie@mybc.com.Take care

Feb-23-02, 08:41 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Container loader" Thanks for the input. I'm looking for one that runs on rubber wheels, like a truck, but has the 4 arms for picking up the pigs/containers. As I said in my original post, I don't know what the name of this vehicle is. If there is something like this in the forum/file library, what do I need to search for? Do you recall the name? Thanks!Clayton Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
