Jul-07-01, 01:38 AM (EST) "Any more caboose types planned?" We've seen plenty of skins for the bay window cabooses, but living in Illinois, I never saw a bay window caboose in my life. I'm more familiar with the cabooses that have the extra compartment on top (I'm not sure what they're specifically called). Is anyone planning on modelling any of these?Examples (pictures from http://www.dnaco.net/~gelwood):

The observation platform gizmo atop is called the cupola. The brakeman or conductor used to ride there to observe the length and rear of the train.Just talked with a guy as to why this type has not been made for MSTS. He said someone will have to make a new 3D model of the cupola caboose. Guess we're stuck with the safety-type caboose till then.Any more caboose types planned? – image 3

Jul-07-01, 05:14 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Any more caboose types planned?" One of the things I want to get craking on is a good set of cabooses. Even an old wooden hack would be a refreshing alternative to a cabin-less sim.Where's Kevin when you need him? Cheers!

Jul-07-01, 07:48 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Any more caboose types planned?" This type caboose is called an Extended Vision/Coupla Caboose. I want to see a model of this type of caboose as well as the type that is just like this, but with the coupla about 2/3 back on the top.REAL PLANES SPIN PROPS AND DRIP OIL

Jul-07-01, 08:34 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Any more caboose types planned?" Thanks guys! Cupola, that sounds familiar now. 525cj, I have seen the type you refer to as well, with the cupola shifted toward the end. I used to see cabooses all the time as a kid (mid-80s), but no more. *sigh* Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-08-01, 03:50 AM (EST) 10. "RE: Any more caboose types planned?" It's just a bunch of jpegs and a sketchy model from material I sent Jago several months ago when he was talking about doing a caboose. I suggested an International Wide Vision. This is as far as he ever got on it.Mike Woodill

Jul-08-01, 03:39 PM (EST) 11. "RE: Any more caboose types planned?" This was done well before the beta release and before we found out what a PITA conversion was. I suggested that he build a Wide Vision and skin it in BN green, since they used these crummbies extensively. For some reason he did it up in Cotton Belt and never converted it. Somebody should ask him if he minded if they finished it, converted it and released it. Jago is active on Scoble's fan site.Mike Woodill

Jul-10-01, 11:58 PM (EST) 13. "RE: Any more caboose types planned?" I'd be pretty darn excited to see a few variations on Kevin's excellent bay window cab Like maybe one without the roofwalk and ladders, or one with the top of the bay angled like the ones used by the Southern or the L&N. Or, to sound really greedy the makings are there for those transfer cabs with the short bodies and long platforms that I've seen on the Mopac, UP, and Family Lines (amongst others). I agree that an International wide vision cab would probably be well received, as it was used by several different railroads. The northeastern style cupola cab would also be very adaptable. Bottom line is... I can't build 'em, but I can sure skin 'em. I also have a ton of caboose pics and data, if it helps anyone.Oh.... I almost forgot about the offset cupola cabs used by the Santa Fe, and the Clinchfield (yay!)Chris

Jul-11-01, 11:21 AM (EST) 15. "RE: Any more caboose types planned?" Did someone say. . .accurate dimensions?! Well, here ya go. This is an IC freight car diagram book that has diagrams of several cabooses, assorted freight cars, anything you'd want. For this thread, though, the cabooses would be of interest.http://gelwood.railfan.net/other/ic/ic-frtbk.html Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
