Feb-19-02, 04:19 PM (EST) "3DC alt select & LP vs Pro" I'm trying out 3D Canvas Freeware.
In doing the cross section tutorial where the locomotive nose is shaped I can't get alt select to work. The alt worked to extend both sides of the cross section up to the nose but no matter what I try I can't a point on the opposite side to select at the same time as the facing point is selected. Also are there any advantages of PRO over LP for use with MSTS?Impression so far is 3DC is more powerful and feature loaded. TSM is simpler. "Easier" is subjective. I hope to post a review of 3DC once I've worked the learning curve. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Otherwise, if it is something you can't click on at all, try using the perspective view to select the point and the orthographic view in a separate pane to do the operation...------ BUZZ ------

Feb-20-02, 08:26 AM (EST) 2. "RE: 3DC alt select & LP vs Pro" I'm using the side view as directed in the tutorial.
It's at the point the tutorial shows the templet zoomed way in.
I can click on the facing point or polygon(changes color from yellow to blue).
By zooming in and watching other views at the same time and I can better tell which points or polygons are selected. Also test moves (far exceeding normal adjustment) indicates only one side is moving.
I'm typing this on my office computer (w/o 3dc or any other fun) as I recall Ctrl select does something else like and entire face at once. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Make sure you use the select tool (in the vertical tool bar on the right side of your screen) and hold down Alt while you drag out the selection box with the mouse, over the desired vertices. --

Feb-21-02, 08:23 AM (EST) 4. "RE: 3DC alt select & LP vs Pro" I received yesterday an email from Richard Borsheim of Amabilis Software (3dc) saying there was a bug in 5.5 and 5.5a should correct (error and crash) and is now available. I have not had time to check this out yet. Also the problem may involve which select tool is used. There is a point and face select (solid box) and group select (dotted box). Group select will draw a box around points and worked to put the cross section face forward. I was trying the point and face select based on the illustration in the tutorial. No box appears around the point selected in the tutoral to move down to conform to the template. Richard also said in the email that alt select "doesn't do anything to individual points". I appears I need to use the group select tool and use alt select to draw a box around the one facing point and move that down. I'll report back my success.
