Feb-13-02, 01:49 AM (EST) 1. "RE: any word on dekosoft's SD38-2 or new coil car skins?" Thanks for your interest -- the SD38s are now in the first round of betas, so expect an interesting announcement by the end of next week. Here are a couple pre-release teasers to tide you over:Message Areas - "any word on dekosoft's SD38-2 or new coil car skins?" – image 1Message Areas - "any word on dekosoft's SD38-2 or new coil car skins?" – image 2The coil cars are about 2/3rds done; I've got round hooded and half round + half square versions complete, still working on the long hooded and the open top models... With all the engines in the shop I'm struggling to get the cars done, but hearing what interests people gives me some guidance..cheers,
Chip

Feb-13-02, 02:12 AM (EST) 2. "RE: any word on dekosoft's SD38-2 or new coil car skins?" Will your SD38 .eng file recognize the unique electrical shunting on this locomotive? The SD38 file in V4.1 is public domain, you may feel free to reference or use it if you like, it was very thoroughly researched. In particular, the top speed of this locomotive is restricted to much slower speed than normal because of its electrical properties.
Looking forward to this model.
Thanks,
Bob Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-13-02, 08:06 AM (EST) 3. "RE: any word on dekosoft's SD38-2 or new coil car skins?" Hello Chip,Those screen shots look incredible. The crispness of the textures right into the distance is outstanding. May I ask what video card you use? Thanks

Feb-13-02, 05:38 PM (EST) 4. "RE: any word on dekosoft's SD38-2 or new coil car skins?" Hi,The screenshots were captured on a PC with a run-of-the-mill GeForce 2, 32 MB, I believe. Here's a hint for you virtual rail photographers, though -- I recommend running the full screen anti-aliased mode to make surface edges look less jaggedy (pet peeve). I think the switch to run it is:train.exe /fsaacheers,

(BTW, /anisotropic doesn't work as well here, but YMMV.)Once again, nice work Chip!
Do you plan to darken the blue in the Conrail units? It appears a bit light, especially if we mix the head end consist with other CR units available. The blue appears lighter than your CR GP15s.

Feb-13-02, 10:22 PM (EST) 8. "RE: any word on dekosoft's SD38-2 or new coil car skins?" Yes, I agree! a plain ole SD38 would be nice too, if it's not too far off of the -2 version. Which would be smilar to the SD40 (no -2) .....hmmm Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I emailed an answer to your questions, but I have had a lot of problems with this email service recently and I know some mail has not been delivered. I would be happy to resend on another email service if you don't receive it.

Feb-14-02, 08:02 PM (EST) 11. "RE: any word on dekosoft's SD38-2 or new coil car skins?" Hi guys,Bob: Yes I got your e-mail, thank you!McC John: I tried to get official permission to do a McCloud version but got no response from their successor -- but as usual I'll be making a repaint kit for the final release so one way or another we'll find a way. CRRfan: Hmmm, some interesting ideas! SCL: Try making a batch file to use the antialias option. Do this --1) Open WordPad and type:train.exe /fsaa2) Save this as a text file with a .bat extension (e.g. "train.bat") in the same folder as your train.exe file. 3) Make a shortcut to the file (right click on it) and then drag the shortcut to your desktop, or your taskbar, or wherever you want to keep it handy. Double click on it and it will run Train Sim in antialiased mode. The performance will lag, but the graphics will look better, at least in external views.cheers,
Chip
